Drake Makes Surprise Appearance At University Event

It always pays to join a society at your university and actually rock up to events.

Students at Toronto’s Ryerson University found this out the good way on Sunday evening, with none other than Drake making a surprise appearance at an event organised by the Ryerson Student Union (RSU).

The concert, which was held to support local NBA team Toronto Raptors before their playoff match against the Indiana Pacers, cost a measly 6 cents for entry, and judging by the Facebook event, named 6 Cent Concert with DJ Esco (Plus Special Guests), it didn’t appear to be any more significant than your average jungle/onezie themed college party.

That was until this happened.

Appearing at around 5pm local time, the local MC turned A list celebrity proceeded to provide the perfect Snapchat story for every student in attendance.

Opening his set with Jumpman, Drake went on to drop a selection of cuts from If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, including Energy and Know Yourself, before treating the crowd to newer cuts Pop Style and One Dance from his new album VIEWS, The Star reports.

It’s not the first time Drake has appeared on behalf of the RSU, with the rapper also performing back in September alongside controversial Toronto MC Norm Kelly.

Speaking at the most recent event on Sunday, Drake assured the crowd that this wasn’t just a two-time stint.

“Hey Ryerson, any time they call my phone and say I can come perform for you, I’m touching this stage right here,” He stated, before proclaiming that “I want you to be proud of where you’re from, tonight’s our night… we’re taking it (the playoffs) to the second round.”

For the record, the Raptors defeated the Pacers, marking their first appearance in the second round of the playoffs since 2001.

The appearance at the event is just one of many humbling acts from the artist of late, after he dedicated the record-breaking VIEWS to a cancer patient last week.

VIEWS is out now. Listen to Drake chat about the finer details of the album with Zane Lowe here.
