Blackalicious Return With More Lyrical Acrobatics

Words by Mark Molyneux.

Californian duo Blackalicious have just released a reworked version of their hit Alphabet Aerobics.

The group have teamed up with website Bleacher Report to offer a sports-themed take on their classic. The killer theme tune keeps the same musical background but rewrites the lyrics to be all about sports, “Alley-alley-alley-alley oop on amateurs/ Air above all and any actors that’s average.”

The duo consists of rapper Gift of Gab and DJ/ Producer Chief Xcel (who we interviewed recently), who have just this year released their fourth full length album entitled Imani Vol 1, a whole ten years having passed since their previous effort.

In 2014, Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe famously ripped up the mic in his flawless performance of the original track. On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the host danced around in the background while Radcliffe worked through the 1999 hit in impressive style. The video subsequently went viral and has gone on to clock up more than 50 million views on YouTube. If by some chance you’ve been living under a rock in the last year, or you want to watch it for the hundredth time here it is in all its glory:

If listening to a rapper rattle off rhymes at a frantic pace is your thing, be sure to check out the remixed version of the track. Watch the ridiculously awesome animated video below that accompanies the track, featuring 26 different styles to accompany each letter of the alphabet:

Your move, Mr Radcliffe.
