DJ Khaled Ends Drake’s Reign Atop Album Charts, Scores First Number One

Maybe DJ Khaled does know the key to success? You may know him from his Snapchat fame, all the hilarious videos which circulate on the interwebs, or perhaps his absolutely huge discography full of superstar guests. Either way, the Miami producer has certainly become a prominent figure in social culture, these past few years especially, which really is both a good and a bad thing. When it came to releasing his 9th studio album Major Key just a few weeks ago, it makes sense that it would be well received by audiences, but maybe not this well received. Major Key overnight dethroning Drake from his 12 week long reign at the top of the album charts with VIEWS, and has granted Khaled with his first ever No.1 album.

Armed with features from essentially everyone in the mainstream hip-hop community, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Nas, Drake, FutureGucci Mane, production from Metro Boomin and Nineteen85 to name just a few, Major Key has managed to generate a whopping 95,000 equivalent album units so far.

While this is certainly a huge deal for DJ Khaled, it doesn’t look like his spot on the Billboard charts will last too long, with the forecast predicting that either VIEWS or the Suicide Squad soundtrack will slide into first place in the next week.

With the album ironically touching on the different keys to success, hence the title, you have to hand it to the guy for reaching that first place. Maybe DJ Khaled was right all along and the key to success really is just Dove soap and cocoa butter. I guess we’ll never truly know.
