DJ Quik Teams Up With Problem For ‘Rosecrans’ EP

As Australians hold on to every last bit of sunshine that they can, America is heating up, and the summery tunes are starting to surface – here is an perfect example.

Ahead of his Australian tour, DJ Quik has teamed up with Problem and dropped a six track treat titled Rosecrans, a name many West Coast fans will recognise from other songs as the infamous “Rosecran Avenue” in Quik and Problem’s hometown of Compton.

The project features both artists sharing the rapping and producing, and features some big names: Wiz Khalifa, The Game, Bad Lucc, Buddy, JP Cali, Candace Boyd, and Shy Carter.

Quik brings his signature mellow mixed with funky beats, reminiscent of his earlier work. The mix of the old Compton generation with the new makes for a funky listen.

Problem spoke with Shade 45’s Rude Jude, and voiced his excitement to be working with the legendary DJ Quik:

“It’s a dream come true for me. He allowed me to be the ‘me’ that I am on the project and actually produce with him. It was crazy to watch him mix and master, and just the instrumentation that we used on the project, it was just crazy. The fact that we wasn’t trying to make a project and this kind of just happened made it even more beautiful. This is just something big for the city and something for both of us to just throw out for the people.”

Quik, on the other hand, had a few words for Kanye when he stopped by the radio show #NOAHTV. Quik shared his thoughts on Kanye’s latest album The Life of Pablo:

“Kanye so scared he doesn’t know what to do with the fucking Life of Pablo. Let’s just keep this shit all the way fucking 100… So, his celebrity supersedes his talent right now? Yes. Come on, he’s a Kardashian now, what the fuck. What he gonna do to me? Beat me up? It’s Kanye. See, this is a challenge. This ain’t a diss, it’s just a challenge. Make your best music, because fans aren’t stupid. They’re just not.”

DJ Quik is set to grace Australian shores next month for the This Is Hip-Hop tour, where he will be performing alongside Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Tha Dogg Pound and Mobb Deep. Before you see him live, make sure you smash out Rosecrans.
