Everything you need to know about Meow The Jewels
By now, if you’ve been following this website, or any music news in general, really, you’ll know all about Meow The Jewels. Originally a fan-founded and funded campaign, MTJ is a complete redo of Run The Jewels’ 2014 album Run The Jewels II, remixed and made from cat noises.
The album will not only feature production from RTJ mastermind El-P, but a myriad producers and artists who’ve lent their skills to the project. This includes everyone from Just Blaze to Dan the Automator, from Bauuer to Zola Jesus, from The Alchemist to Portishead’s Geoff Barrow.
We haven’t heard too many updates in recent weeks. But now, finally, El-P took to Twitter to share the news we’ve all been waiting for:
well @JustBlaze just sent me his meowmixx and its incredible. that means… ahem… MEOW THE JEWELS IS COMPLETE AND READY FOR MASTERING.

As yet we don’t have a release date, but this means we’ll hopefully be able to listen to the full thing soon – rumour has it that it’s coming out in September.
Over the past few months we’ve received snippets of samples and what’s to come, as well as one long-awaited full-length listen to Meowrly, the catty rendition of Early. The remix was produced by Boots, who also features on the track. It was premiered on RTJ’s Beats 1 radio show WRTJ. Listen here:
Meow The Jewels was originally a bit of a joke on the RTJ pre-order page, ahead of RTJ2. In the section where customers order special packages, one was ‘The Meow The Jewels Package’ for $40,000. Someone took it to Kickstarter, and the guys got behind it. It eventually raised more than $65 000, well over the $40 000 goal. While the Kickstarter money will be used to fund the album production, El-P has announced that his payment for the record will go to a charity “directly benefitting” the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.
