Remember when a French radio station said that James Blake was releasing his new album Radio Silence in April? Well, obviously that turned out to be not true. But there was another rumour that has now been confirmed.
After Blake expressed his interest in collaborating with him again after working on a number tracks together, Kanye West is going to be featured on Blake’s follow-up for his 2013 album Overgrown, along with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Blake has also collaborated with Vemon before for a track called Fall Creek Boys Choir.
“I can confirm that they’re on it. Kanye – I’m with him today. We’d already started on something … today we should nail something down. If it doesn’t end up on the album you know it hasn’t worked,” Blake said.
We’re not surprised since Kanye was once quoted saying Blake was his “favourite artist.” We sure are excited though! Fingers crossed it actually happens.
In June last year, Blake said his album was only half finished .“I’ve had a completely different life since the first album. I’ve had a lot more freedom since the first album, too,” he said. “The [album] I’m writing now, I’ve had more focus doing this than I have before. I’m having more fun. It’s hard to say what will end up on the record, but it’s exciting.”
Still no release date, but it looks like he’s made some progress since then.
Blake also performed the title track Radio Silence at Latitude Festival over the weekend. The track flows quite smoothly with a strong synth and Blake’s voice rising in raw emotion as the song went on. We can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
