Miley Cyrus auctions Jenner-inspired art for HIV/AIDS research

Miley Cyrus has this week been honored for her fundraising and awareness efforts for HIV and AIDS research and her Happy Hippie Foundation, at amfAR’s Sixth Annual Inspiration Gala. Alongside talk-show host Andy Cohen, Cyrus was the guest of honour at the foundation’s event in Manhattan where Mary J Blige (who will be in town for Soulfest later year) performed.

At the event, Cyrus donated four pieces of art (three of which are pictured below) to continue her fundraising efforts. Cyrus’ artwork was inspired -as well as signed- by Caitlyn Jenner and her Vanity Fair cover. Cyrus took copies of the magazine cover and added a whole lot of colour (and some glitter) to them to create unique, individual pieces of art. At final bid, the pieces raised $69,000 USD to be put towards AIDS research, with reports stating that the singer raised bidding when it stalled at $65,000 USD by offering some last minute incentives.

cats“Making AIDS history.”

In her acceptance speech, Cyrus vowed to  “continue to fight along with such an industrious army for a cure for this epidemic.” With her Happy Hippie Foundation having recently launched and her kick-starting of the #instapride project, Miley Cyrus continues to be a positive, vocal and supportive advocate of the LGBT community.
