When legendary funk act Earth, Wind and Fire took to the Bonnaroo stage on Saturday night, no one could have predicted what would go down. In classic festival spontaneity and splendidness, bassist Verdine White decided to capitalise when he saw some well known faces in the crowd.
In a move that has gone above and beyond the call of surprise, the classic group called up hip hop artists Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar to show the crowd (who almost certainly were NOT expecting this kind of cameo) their freestyle talents. Of course, they graciously obliged. You can check them out at around the 1:15:00 minute mark. “I knew who [Lamar] was, but it wasn’t planned,” White said later.
The duo look like they are having a killer time and the performance pays testament to the talent of these young rappers. They embrace the opportunity to let loose and do a pretty damn good job.
