Earlier this year, to pay respect to their late friend A$AP Yams one year after his death, the A$AP Mob released a brand new song titled Yamborghini High. To put it simply, the track is lit. It’s got hot rhymes for all your major A$AP Mob players like A$AP RockyA$AP Nast and A$AP Ferg, as well as Juicy J for some added starpower and was debuted live at an A$AP Yams tribute concert a few months back. Now, to give the song it’s complete package, the Mob have released some visuals, once again offering another very fitting tribute to the Mob’s founder.

Taking us on a psychedelic trip of epic proportions, this technicoloured adventure features Rocky wearing a pale pink robe, babes galore and more than a few Lamborghinis for authenticity. Playing with visual effects, the hazy clip gets really tripped out as visuals warp and the grass turns purple, all while the Mob wilds out in honour of their friend. Like being trapped in a vortex, the visually overwhelming piece represents not only A$AP Rocky’s newfound artistic direction, but that of the clothes Yams used to wear – bright, Biggie style jumpers etc, serving as a celebration of Yams’ life.

If you were after more A$AP Yams tributes, or just after more stuff from the Mob, you may be in luck. Rocky himself told Hot 97 recently that this track is taken from a new release called Cozy Tapes. “It’s the Yams album that he was working on before he passed,” Rocky said. “So it’s basically an A$AP collective. Like your Ruff Ryders Volume 1 type, Ryde or Die Vol. 1 or like Diplomatic Immunity… He broke down in his notes and he would tell me who he wants on there. We was about to start working on it.” Whilst there is no confirmation on that, we have our fingers and toes crossed that with the recent release of A$AP Ferg’s album, Always Strive and Prosper, the gates may be open for Cozy Tapes.

You know what it time it is, it’s Thursday again already, and that means it’s time to enjoy the latest Wavy Wednesday courtesy of your favourite Harlem collective; A$AP Mob.

A$AP Rocky took to Twitter to unveil the latest duo of tracks, and to ensure fans that they were indeed “LIT”:

A$AP Ant takes centre stage this week, after delivering a solid back up feature for A$AP Twelvyy on last week’s release, Again. This time Ant is teaming up with MMG’s own Fat Trel to bring us The Way It Go Pt. 2.

The track itself is definitely nothing spectacular, but Ant gives his best A$AP Ferg impression as he navigates his way through a trap inspired beat interwoven with some very tranquil sound effects. Fat Trel is surprisingly the standout here, and proves he can match it with the big boys, after seemingly disappearing into the shadows of Rick Ross label.

Rocky, I normally agree with you, but I’m not too sure about just how lit this week’s tracks are.

It almost pains me to do this, but the second track that has been bestowed upon this week is by far the weakest showing of what has generally been a stellar month of releases. Vlone Thug, featuring Playboi Carti and UnoTheActivist shows exactly what happens when the A$AP Mob aren’t around to add to the overall vibe or lyrical delivery of the song. Whilst the beat is bearable, it is far too repetitive, and the flow of both rappers does little to conjure up many positive impressions.

Perhaps we have just been spoilt for choice as of late; we have been treated to appetite-wheting releases from Ferg, surprise appearances from Danny Brown, as well as some stellar features from Mob members who are often content to play second fiddle to the bigger names amongst the crew.

Here’s hoping that next week spells a return to form for our favourite weekly release.

America’s humpday cure is quickly becoming Australia’s Thursday treat. Wavy Wednesdays are back courtesy of the ASAP Mob, and the hits just keep on coming, this time in the form of new A$AP Ferg and A$AP Twelvyy. While this week’s releases might fail to match last week’s stellar Danny Brown cameo, it is without a doubt a strong showing from the Harlem collective.

Ferg delivers the standout of the releases, jumping on a track with A$AP Marty to deliver I Don’t Care. The track itself radiates a very 90’s-esque vibe, with heavy piano laden throughout. Ferg himself delivers a more laid back flow, taking a slower and more mellow approach, as opposed to his usual frenetic lyrical delivery. Marty delivers a solid hook and chorus, with all the elements only combining for yet another example as to why Ferg needs to deliver his upcoming project Always Strive And Prosper sooner rather than later, which is set to feature none other than Grimes, Future, Schoolboy Q and Missy Elliott among others.

Again is the second track of the week, with Twelvyy bringing along another Mob member who is often resigned to the shadows; A$AP Ant.  While both MC’s are often deemed to be hit or miss in their releases, on this occasion they have teamed up to deliver a solid track. The brooding and morbid beat proves to be the perfect backdrop for the duo’s lyrics:

“Get hit with the northern star
Wilin’ out with an open charge
Fuck a rat, I have court tomorrow
But I better get off tomorrow
‘Nough time to watch Oprah, y’all Man,
I’m young, black, and focused, dawg”

A$AP Mob is continuing to set the standards high for weekly releases. Wednesday is fast becoming my favourite day of the week.

It’s been one year since A$AP Yams tragicly passed away due to drug related causes, and it goes without saying that it’s been a rough 12 months for the A$AP Mob. Yams, founder of the Mob, played a huge part in the mammoth careers of A$AP RockyA$AP FergA$AP Nast and more, and has had a lasting effect on those he left behind.

It’s fitting then, that the remaining Mob member would pay tribute to their friend in the best ways they know how – throwing a huge party and writing a song in his honour. Known as Yams Day to friends and family, plans have already been announced for a concert featuring A$AP Rocky, the whole A$AP Mob, Joey Bada$$ and more to descend on New York City, and now the Mob have offered up an official cut of their track, Yamborghini High.

Debuted on OVO Sound Radio which featured A$AP Mob members Cozy Boys (A$AP Lou and J Scott) as guest hosts, the full Mob remember their late friend on a typically hazy beat and some fiery bars. It was previously debuted during A$AP Rocky’s set at Cockenflap in Hong Kong, but was quickly taken down – probably in preparation for the official release. Don’t worry though, because the audio cut of the track has now appeared online, and you can listen for yourself below.

Two months after the tragic death of A$AP Yams, the cause has finally been revealed.

According to reports from The New York Times, the 26 year old was another victim of a drug overdose. The New York City chief medical examiner found that he “died of an acute mixed-drug intoxication, including opiates and benzodiazepines.”

Yams’ struggles with his drug addiction and visit to rehab in July 2014 were out in the open. Despite his attempts to kick his habit, he lost his battle all too soon. On the morning of January 18th, he was found in his apartment in Brooklyn. He was pronounced dead at Woodhull Medical Centre.

Some of the other members of A$AP Mob paid tribute to him in various ways. A$AP Ferg posted a picture of himself with Yams on Instagram saying, “You will be missed, bro. We done touched a lot of ground together, landed on a lot of different soil. You will always be loved, and your spirit will live on!”

They were understandably upset by their friend’s passing. A$AP Rocky cut his performance short at the Sundance Film Festival this year. He explained why in an interview with Billboard, “I was fucked up then. I’m getting back into things. I’m not fully there but shit takes time.”

His presence in the world of music will not go unremembered. Yams, you will be missed.
