It’s been one year since A$AP Yams tragicly passed away due to drug related causes, and it goes without saying that it’s been a rough 12 months for the A$AP Mob. Yams, founder of the Mob, played a huge part in the mammoth careers of A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast and more, and has had a lasting effect on those he left behind.
It’s fitting then, that the remaining Mob member would pay tribute to their friend in the best ways they know how – throwing a huge party and writing a song in his honour. Known as Yams Day to friends and family, plans have already been announced for a concert featuring A$AP Rocky, the whole A$AP Mob, Joey Bada$$ and more to descend on New York City, and now the Mob have offered up an official cut of their track, Yamborghini High.
Debuted on OVO Sound Radio which featured A$AP Mob members Cozy Boys (A$AP Lou and J Scott) as guest hosts, the full Mob remember their late friend on a typically hazy beat and some fiery bars. It was previously debuted during A$AP Rocky’s set at Cockenflap in Hong Kong, but was quickly taken down – probably in preparation for the official release. Don’t worry though, because the audio cut of the track has now appeared online, and you can listen for yourself below.
It’s just a few months out from A$AP Rocky’s long awaited return to Australia. Rocky was particularly affected by Yams’ death, which is evident on his latest record, AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP. From various shout outs in the tracks to the cover art, Rocky was hit particularly hard by this tragedy, and this tour will be the first time Australian fans will be able to catch this new side of Pretty Flacko live.
