Back in 2014, one of the biggest FOMO-inducing events in a long time occurred, when Prince invited Kendrick Lamar to his Paisley Park estate for an intimate performance. Rumours of the gig have long been told, but now we finally have footage to confirm that yes, it really was amazing.
It’s been just over a week since Prince’s passing away, but that doesn’t make the grief any less real for the music community. However, I think many people agree that what his Purple Highness would want is a celebration of his music rather than a sorrowful mourning period, and this footage gives exactly that.
Backed by his incredible band of accomplished female musicians, Kendrick and The Purple One unleash an absolute belter together. Performing What’s My Name off Prince’s album, Crystal Ball, the thunderous tune is given plenty of ammo from Kdot’s verse, whilst Prince boogies and jives across the stage before jamming out on the piano. The crowd goes absolutely wild (as anyone would) as the tune creeps up on you before exploding, and shows an intimate but powerful insight into just how talented Prince truly was. Take a look at the clip for yourself below:
If this doesn’t get you going, I don’t know what will.
