Though it’s been almost two years since his death, DJ Rashad, undoubtedly the most inspirational artist in the footwork genre, has kept releasing music. With a huge amount of unfinished work and collaborations with other artists still floating around, it’s no surprise, but it’s about to be taken to the next level. After sharing mid last year their plans to launch their own label, yesterday Teklife announced their first release, a posthumous album by the late DJ entitled Afterlife.
It’s not the first tribute the footwork collective has done for their lost friend, releasing compilation Next Life shortly after he passed away. The fourteen track LP arrives on the 8th of April, with features from longtime friends and collaborators of Rashad’s, DJ Spinn, DJ Manny and DJ Earl just to name a few. Rashad’s impact on footwork and on electronic music and production in general will go down in history, and no doubt this won’t be the last time we hear fresh work coming from the late legend.
You can pre-roder Afterlife here, with a portion of the proceeds going to Rashad’s family, and check the tracklisting below. Teklife have also just released a fresh collaboration between Microglobe and Machinedrum, which you can peep too:
