Watch: Primal Scream’s Where the Light Gets In (ft. Sky Ferreira)

Glaswegian rock veterans Primal Scream have linked up with US alt-pop starlet Sky Ferreira to deliver a fiery new electro pop single.

The leading single from Primal Scream’s forthcoming 12th studio LP, Where The Light Gets In marks another unexpected change in musical direction form the legendary Scottish act.

The track centres around a duet between Primal Scream frontman and ex-Jesus and Mary Chain drummer Bobby Gillespie and Ferreira. Underscoring the duo’s vocals with arpeggiated synth riffs and psychedelic guitar slides, the track provides a perfect blend of the collaborators’ alt pop and retro rock leanings.

The single is also accompanied stylish musical video showing the two iconic singers performing amidst a dazzling succession of psychedelic visuals.

Ferreira reflects fondly on her time with the influential band. “It’s nice to walk in somewhere and they’re not like, ‘Okay, your label is harassing me about this and that.’ I set it up without anyone else involved, so we just sit and write in a room and there’s no pressure” she revealed to NME.

Sky is only one a many guest vocalists for the album with the upcoming LP Chaosmosis. The album will also feature pop rock outfit Haim on tracks 100% Or Nothing and Trippin’ On Your Love as well as Rachel Zeffira of Cat’s Eyes on a song titled Private Wars.

Primal Scream have delved into just about every facet of rock and psychedelic pop since forming 1982, but if Where The Light Gets In is any indication there’s still life left in the seminal Scottish act.

Chaosmosis is Primal Screams first release since 2013’s More Light.

While this is the first we’ve heard from Ferreira in 2016, the young singer has also revealed that she will be releasing a follow up to 2014’s Night Time, My Time later this year.
