Every year hordes of young people emerge from their New Years hangovers to embrace Sydney’s New Years Day festival Field Day. With just three weeks until the big day, Field Day have released their set times and final lineup.
This year Field Day have nabbed some excellent talent including Disclosure, Flight Facilities, The Wombats, Golden Features, Django Django, SAFIA, Skepta, Snakehips and RL Grime. Unfortunately, as with any one-day festival, there are some merciless, heartbreaking clashes across the four stages – so anyone planning to head down should get serious about planning. Punters will have to choose between Allday and Ngaiire, Skepta and SAFIA, Ta-ku, Young Fathers and Daniel Avery, Golden Features and The Avener, and more. The closing set will also be a tough decision for some, between electronic giants Disclosure spinning their new album, or Aussie young guns San Cisco.
Thankfully for most fans, the festival has avoided clashing the three biggest artists, as Flight Facilities, The Wombats and Disclosure can technically all be seen without overlapping. Yet as any experienced festival attendee knows, trying to jump from stage to stage is risky business when dealing with 10 000 other people who also had your brilliant idea.
As always, there are a few hidden gems that will inevitably be overlooked. Sliding in early at 12.30 on the second stage known as ‘The Island’, is Triple J Unearthed winner Jess Kent. After ripping one of the year’s most infectious tracks with Get Down, she’ll be appearing in her first festival slot, so drag yourself out of that NYE slumber and catch the best early.
Happy planning people.
