TIFF features all of the music documentaries

The spate of music films continues this year with Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) featuring too many music documentaries to count. Along with the successful release of Straight Out Of Comptonthe documentary selection at TIFF promises to continue the exciting trend of music films being released this year.

We had a little fun predicting and suggesting music films we’d like to see in the future, but for now we’ll just have to get by with these tangible and existing films, with two created by Oscar winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville (producer of 20 feet from stardom).

The music films featured at this years festival include:

Keith Richards: Under the Influence

Janis: Little Girl Blue

The Reflektor Tapes

The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble

Miss Sharon Jones!

Thru You Princess

It’s hard to make a documentary about music without extreme passion, so we can always expect high quality story-telling in movies like these. With TIFF showing so many this year, and with two of the last three oscar winning documentaries being about music (Searching for Sugar Man and 20 Feet From Stardom) we can expect this upward trend of films about the art we all love to continue!
