Working in public is pretty commonplace now. People are always working on their laptops in cafes, maybe sending some emails on the bus or students doing assignments wherever they can – but what about recording and mastering music? New York resident Prince Harvey goes further for his craft than many, releasing a whole EP this month that he recorded entirely in an Apple Store. Sure, a lot of us might stand in front of an Apple Store to use their free wifi (it’s great for travelling, ok?) but this is taking the service to a whole new level…
After Harvey lost the use of two computers real quick – one karked it and the other got stolen – and with no money to buy another, he decided that he’d continue to craft his music using a demo laptop in SoHo’s Apple Store. Speaking with The Daily Beast, Prince said that “New York is expensive. I couldn’t just buy another laptop. I just thought, ‘I’m going to die before anyone knows I’m hot.’”
Prince Harvey At The Apple Store: Soho – PHATASS for short – releases July 26. Check the first two tracks below, the hype for the album is so real after hearing them, and so much more impressive considering where they were made.
