Nick Hill drops new video for track ‘Rut’

Sydney artist Nick Hill has released his very first video for his soulful and mellow track Rut. The clip is a series of medium close-ups of Hill against a craggy sandstone backdrop, grey sky, tumultuous choppy ocean break, interspersed with dark footage of a person (presumably Hill) playing some instruments in a personalised home recording studio. Curtains cover the windows, filtering what little light makes it into into a desaturated, dark cave.

Directed by Melbourne based cinematographer/writer/director Greg McCann, the entirety of the video is very low-lit, purposely so it seems to mirror the mysterious and melancholic ambience of the song itself. Crystal clear and beautifully shot, its a wonderful accompaniment to Rut.

Taken from his debut EP Rut, released earlier this year, and is a collection of beautiful, understated electro-soul ballads. Having just played a killer opening set for Japanese Wallpaper on Saturday at the Newtown Social Club in Sydney (read our review here), Hill is certainly a homegrown talent to watch.

Listen to his debut EP Rut below for some more brooding vibes, out now via Yes Please Records.
