We’ve rounded up some of the best new music videos from across the entire musical spectrum, from pop, to R&B, to hip-hop, electro-pop and beyond. Enjoy!
Georgia Mae – Time With You
This was an interestingly filmed video, with some still shots pieced together with raw footage in a kind of intentionally amateur way. Some warm summer vibes for the beginning of winter from this upcoming Australian artist. The video was filmed in brisbane, and the artist had this to say about its concept: “I hope it can relate to a lot of people who have really special memories of spending time with someone important to them.”

Maxwell – Lake By The Ocean
Maxwell has made a welcome return to music, and his first song in seven years now has a visual accompaniment to match. First, we meet a volunteer working at a disadvantaged village, who heads to a bar after work, only to find Maxwell performing. She dances to the smooth tune, before joining Maxwell on a swim – no doubt in a lake by the ocean – quickly showing their affection for one another. The shadows and low lighting do a good job of keeping the mood. it’s good to have him back.

Kyle Bent – Vibes
Much like the name, the video for the upcoming artist’s new track is all about the good vibes. The bright colours and summer scenes of fun create a warm atmosphere in the mix of clips that go along with the upbeat song. It’s really exciting to see more emerging artists producing this type of cheery, soulful hip-hop infusions, and we’re looking forward to seeing what’s next for Kyle Bent.

Bat For Lashes – Sunday Love
Natasha Khan seems to be continuing the wedding theme with this video, just like in God’s House. Here, we meet a man driving on a dark road in a storm, looking as though he had been in a fight. He stops the car and is greeted by Khan wearing a white dress with a veil. Suddenly, he falls into Khan arms dead. While she is visibly upset, she kisses him. He disappears, leaving her staring at the sky. Once again, she found a tragic and exciting way to present her stunning song on video.

Fetty Wap – Wake Up
Once again, Fetty Wap has killed it with another playful clip for Wake Up, a track celebrating getting “Wiz Khalifa high” (aka – very fucking high.) Here, Fetty goes back to school, singing in the hallways, dancing along to the slow beat. The rebelliousness and disinterest in school that so many teenagers possess is portrayed through the integration of the hip-hop lifestyle into the classroom, which is pretty interesting in itself. The combination of the hand-drawn graphics and brightly coloured clips of high school kids chilling out create an interesting take.

Arthur Beatrice – Since We Were Kids
This is a nice little song with a simple little video. Lead vocalist Ella Girardot sits on a stool in a black and white filtered clip, directed by designer and long time collaborator Kate Moross, while coloured cut-outs surround her. They seem to keep her trapped in a suffocating little box as they crowd in front of her while she dwells on the past. A visually gorgeous clip to accompany the latest single from their new album, Keeping The Peace.

Clams Casino – Witness ft. Lil B
Clams Casino is back, with new music and a long-awaited new album, 32 Levels, on the way. Now comes new track Witness, which not only features long term collaborator Lil B, but has also been directed by, and stars, the mysterious rapper. While I’m not a fan of his solo work, I’m really digging the track. The video is pretty typical of a slick hip-hop clip, but it’s still a fun watch. We’re really looking forward to this album.

Four to the floor, Brisbabes returns once more with yet another killer line up of local lady talent to get you groovin’ and movin’ for it’s fourth instalment. This time helmed by the heavenly Georgia Mae (who we recently chatted to about her favourite albums), this female fronted fun time is set to be even better than the last (and that’s saying something)!
Supporting Georgia on the night will be dream pop six piece Yuuca, the electro-tinged grooves of San Mei, the soulful electronica of Alice Ivy and newcomer Moodie Gloom with her incredible voice filling out the rest of the lineup. Promising to be yet another night of celebration of women in music, Brisbabes serves a showcase to the fair city of Brisbane to highlight just how much talent we have on offer when it comes to the fairer sex.

As always, Brisbabes is an inclusive night that aims to promote women in music as well as female empowerment. With each event growing exponentially in size, we’re excited to see that the message of supporting women in music is really getting out there. Tickets flew out of the proverbial door last time, so it would be wise to jump on them right now to avoid disappointment. Kicking off from 8pm on July 16, get those dancing shoes shined and ready – this is gonna be good!
Brisbane rising star Georgia Mae has just released her latest single, Time With You, kicking yet another goal this year. Not only has she nailed this one on the head, but she also works as a composer for film and television has written music for shows such as Keeping Up With the Kardashians and the Real Housewives series, and nabbed herself two nominations for the Queensland Music Awards and found herself sitting on of 700,000 plays on Spotify for just this song along. Not. Bloody. Bad.
Set to continue to take this year by storm, we get the feeling we haven’t seen anything yet from this lady. To get to know her a bit better before she well and truly explodes, we asked her about the three albums that changed her life. Prefacing her choices by telling us, “It’s worth mentioning the shift I believe many of us have gone through from listening to albums to listening to artists. I’ve inherited hundreds of CDs from my parents, and used to buy albums every weekend until about 5 years ago. Online streaming and being spoilt for choice has twisted the nature of listening. So interestingly, my choice of influential albums is perhaps restricted to my teetering prehistoric CD collection.” Check out her answers below and keep your eyes peeled – Georgia Mae is just getting started!

Radiohead, In Rainbows
I wrote up a big report on this album at uni, with particular focus on Weird Fishes, so I could gush about it all day. Very quickly though, I think I worked out an equation that explains why it’s so damn addictive and satisfying: rhythmic sophistication + honest emotional execution + Thom’s intrigue + Jonny’s sex appeal – genre limitations = pot of gold.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Stadium Arcadium
The coolest thing about this album for me is the pretty drastic stylistic osmosis that happens (without causing any sense of upset for the listener). The band shows off its dynamic talent by feeding rock, funk, pop, folk and probably other things into one of those NutriBullet things, then dishes up some spicy flavour. I think Anthony’s energetic vocal rhythm has been a big influence on the way I write lyrics. And probably my greatest wish is to abduct Flea and make him record on my tracks.

Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon
Gosh, literally everything about this is influential. Its progressive songwriting, studio performance and production were revolutionary, and I could talk about that forever, but maybe the other really important influence it’s had on me is the lyrical/psychological journey it goes through. It’s almost like a storybook – a ‘beginning to end’ type of listen that meaningfully threads chapters together. Watching Beyonce‘s Lemonade reminded me of Dark Side in its fluidity as a wholistic work of art, not so much just a collection of songs.
