Fred Armisen & Bill Hader to Release EP For ‘Fake’ Soul Band

Where have all the comedy and joke bands gone? Weird Al may have just been announced to be playing Falls Festival, but there seems to be a distinct lack of comedic music nowadays. One group however, full of familiar characters from American sketch TV, is changing that up and releasing a full EP for you to giggle along to.

Multi-threat Fred Armisen (Star of Portlandia, but perhaps most well known as the weird dude on the train in Eurotrip), is a brilliant musician, and last year released a bunch of 7” singles by some of the fictional bands he’s been in on Saturday Night Live. One of those groups, the Blue Jean Committee, a Sonny and Cher styled 70s soul group also featuring ex-SNL and Trainwreck star Bill Hader, has just announced they’re releasing an EP of seven of the band’s tracks.

Blue Jean Committee describe themselves as a group “inspired by such laid back duos as Loggins & Messina, Seals & Crofts, Becker & Fagan and England Dan and John Ford Coley and well-versed in the ‘Lido Shuffle,’ to boot, the Blue Jean Committee were the proud products of the late ’70s Northampton, Massachusetts music scene.”

The group appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” last night to perform their most popular track, Catalina Breeze, to go alongside the announcement. Check it below, preorder the EP here, and make sure to keep tabs on Blue Jean Committee, it’s looking like it’ll fill a void in our library that all of us forgot we had.
