New track from Yeo: Secret Powers ft Yule Post

Following up his first two singles “Kobe” and “Girl,” Yeo has now released “Secret Powers,” proving once again that there’s something utterly unique about the talented Melbourne producer.

“Secret Powers” is a synth-based tune that’s so much more than just a synth-based tune. Opening with misty, muffled synths and a subdued beat, the gorgeous melody is rich and deliberate. Yeo’s voice is complemented beautifully by the airy lilt of German artist Yule Post, while each musical layer adds something strong to the atmosphere.

Their duet choruses create these heartbreaking, wistful harmonies, somehow evoking feelings of both emotional maturity and total vulnerability. And really, who doesn’t love (what sounds like) a sax solo?

This is a really fine release, with such an interesting soundscape. Stylish and sensitive, the melody is haunting yet sweet, while the smooth rhythm carries just a hint of an ’80s groove. You can really be swept up in the raw temperament a track so lush, and so exposed.

The more I listen to this, the more I like it. That’s the truth.

You can catch Yeo in Sydney and Melbourne in support of the new single:

Saturday November 8:  Shebeen Bandroom, Melbourne (support from Null + Dot.ay)

Thursday December 11: Brighton Up Bar, Sydney (support from Tales In Space + More TBA)
