Freddie Gibbs Wants to Help Indiana School Kids

Freddie Gibbs can add “top bloke” to his long list of achievements, with the news that he’s launching a crowd funding campaign for school kids in his hometown of Gary, Indiana.

Hoping to raise $3000, Gibbs has set up the campaign on GoFundMe with proceeds going to the School Supply Giveaway of Gary (SSGA) – a non-profit organisation that will donate every last cent to the children.

Alongside the main message he wrote on the page, saying, “Not having the basic supplies that every other kid in any other city had left a lot of us with little motivation to do well in school and turned a lot of us to darker paths,” Gibbs also posted a video message asking for donations.

This campaign is the most recent in a string of community-positive ventures that US rappers are engaging in, with Chance The Rapper also recently launching a non-violence campaign in Chicago over the weekend. If you wish to donate, you can do so here.

And if this news has put you in the mood to listen to a little Freddie Gibbs magic, check out the three-track EP he dropped earlier this year, and this brilliant collaboration with Hanni El Khatib.
