Kita Alexander

Not many 19 year olds have more than 100,000 views on their music videos on YouTube, but Kita Alexander isn’t like most 19 year olds. Hailing from the regional beachside town of Port Macquarie on the NSW coast, she was brought up on the sounds of Queen, Tom Petty, Patti Smith, and Fleetwood Mac. Now, she has set out to forge her own path in music, and by using her influences as a child mixed with modern flair, she has created a unique sound that is taking the world by storm.

Now, she looks set to take the next big step and is joining two of the country’s biggest names, Jarryd James and Meg Mac on their national tour. Set to perform in three of Australia’s best live music venues, it seems everything is coming together very nicely indeed for Alexander. To get to know her a little bit better before she truly blows up, we asked her to give us a little insight into three albums that have changed her life. See below for her tour dates, and get ready to hear a lot more from her very, very soon.

Fleetwood Mac – Rumours

My love for Fleetwood Mac was passed down to me by my mum. As it was her favourite band it quickly became mine too. I fell in love with their epic pop melodies and tight harmonies. Stevie is probably the one person in the world that I would melt if I met her, but Christine is my songwriting idol and to write with her would be a dream come true. This album, especially Dreams, reminds me of home, family, and summer beach days.

Queen – Greatest Hits II

Probably my favourite collection of songs in one hit. Yeah it’s got Bohemian Rhapsody on it, but it also has Fat Bottom Girls and Crazy Little Thing Called Love (which was the first song I ever learnt to play and sing on guitar at the same time… I think when I was about 9).

Ben Howard – Every Kingdom

This album got me through the hardest time in my life. It kept me sane and grounded. I couldn’t be sad when keep your head up came on shuffle. Whenever I was losing touch, I’d go for a drive and listen to the whole album, then get home and feel almost 100% better.

Two of the biggest names in Australian music, Meg Mac and Jarryd James, are just about ready to hit the road and bring their sweet sweet sounds to a capital near you. Both headliners in their own right, the pair will be sharing the bill for what are likely to be three huge and hypnotic nights.

Long time Meg Mac fans, we’ve been blown away by her live performances in Sydney and Brisbane. It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for the artist, who was named Triple J’s Unearthed Artist of The Year in 2014, had three songs in the Hottest 100, and saw her latest single Never Be debut at #1 on the AIR chart. James is also no stranger to success taking out the highest selling single of the year with track Do You Remember? and his debut album Thirty One debuting at #2 on the ARIA charts.

Just in case that’s not enough awesome for one bill, the two will be joined by Kita Alexander, a 19-year-old singer songwriter who has been making waves with her two high rotation singles My Own Way and Like You Want To. With a voice that makes you want to lay in some long grass and make pictures from the shapes in the clouds, she couldn’t be a better fit for these poignant and lolling affairs.
