Meet Fortunes, Your New Favourite Electro-Soul Duo

Future Classic, home to Flume, Chet Faker Nick Murphy, Seekae and the like, has developed the kind of pedigree where, each time a new artist is announced, you stop what you’re doing and you pay attention. With that in mind, meet Future Classic’s first signing in more than a year: Fortunes. The Melbourne-via-NZ duo consists of Conor McCabe and Barnaby Matthews and they’re here with a gorgeous new single, 501’s.

501’s is a taster of what to look forward to when they release their next project in in 2017. The track opens with a woozy, syncopated rhythm, before the seductively smooth vocals take us to the kind of place that Anderson Paak, BJ the Chicago Kid and Silentjay x Jace XL have kept warm over the past few months.

The blend of those R&B vocals and the bright electronic production, complete with spacey synth trickles and delicate vocal harmonies, evokes a sensual atmosphere that practically forces your hips to move.

This isn’t Fortunes’ debut release; they have two independent EP’s, Hoodie and Jacket (both worth checking out), and have already drawn enough attention to themselves to score opening slots for artists including Shlohmo, Oddisee and JMSN.

I’m looking really forward to hearing more from Fortunes, a welcome addition to the ever-blooming world of sexy Australian electro-soul.
