Young Thug has been all over the news of late. From calling Rich Homie Quan out over homophobic comments, to demanding custody of his, erm, 11 children, to beefs with Lil Wayne and beyond, it often feels like the talented artist is keeping himself in the news for any damn reason, musical or not. But considering he’s on one of our favourite albums and singles of the year, we’re particularly excited about the news that he’s just announced a series of collaborative mixtapes.

Sure, we haven’t actually received a full debut album from Young Thug just yet, but that’s not to say we haven’t received a huge amount of Thugger music in 2015, including massive leaks, Barter 6, and plenty of collaborations. In a new interview with French publication Mon Entourage, Thug has now announced three exciting upcoming collaborative mixtapes – that will hopefully see the light of day in 2016, with Post Malone, Fetty Wap and Migos. The direct quote, is, “I’m bringing out a mixtape with The Migos, I’m bringing out a mixtape with Fetty Wap, and I’m bringing out a mixtape with Post Malone. All of them are done, it’s probably just like four songs left on one of them. But all of them are done. So there’s like 50 more songs.”

The 22-minute interview sheds light on a side to Thug that we don’t usually see, as he’s notoriously quite closed off on interviews. Speaking about his troubled upbringing and the music he grew up on, and the journey to where he is now.

Young Thugor as I like to refer to him ‘The Hip-Hop Human Headline’, has hit out at Rich Homie Quan following some less than favourable comments made by the Atlanta rapper towards one of his own fans.

In the midst of a performance in Florida, footage has emerged of a male fan getting a bit too “hands on” with Rich Homie Quan; attempting to grope the rapper, incurring quite the verbal spray in response.

I don’t fuck with no fucking faggots,” he declared, visibly angry at the situation that was unfolding on stage. The insults did not stop there however, with Quan drawing comparisons between the fan and fellow Rich Gang member Young Thug.

Back your ass up, you’re out here looking like Young Thug.”

Young Thugga didn’t take to kindly to the comments, taking to Twitter (the go to tool of the modern day rapper) to signal the end of Quan’s career.

Perhaps after taking some time to simmer and take things off the boil, Thugga took to social media yet again to forgive Quan and give him a pass, this time at least. For all we know he is still too busy attempting to gain custody of every one of his 12 children.

It’s unclear what sparked the sudden turn around in sentiment from Young Thug; we all know that he is itching for a good beef at the worst of times. It may perhaps have been influenced by the words of Quan’s DJ, DJ Fresh, who of course took to social media to set straight the “lame ass story” making the rounds.

Stop with this lame ass story man, that’s not what the fuck happened. Those were not shots, he stated that the dude who was being flamboyantly gay by trying to touch him looked like Young Thug, and then proceeded to say that he’s not with that type of shit!!!”

Apparently in the world of DJ Fresh, everything is okay with those comments JUST AS LONG as they’re not misconstrued as offensive toward Young Thug. The blatant homophobia and discrimination can stay however.

Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan have previously collab’ed together; perhaps their friendship trumped all and cooler heads prevailed this time around.

But now we know Young Thug is watching. Thugga is always watching.

Young Thug is many things. Autotune crooner, cross-dresser and purveyor of a new brand of edgy hipster Southern hip-hop. He is also a pissed off father. In his latest Twitter rant, Young Thug goes off on the baby’s mamas keeping his kids out of reach. “When you bombs give me custody then I’ll be able to see them every day but until then I’ll just pay my child support that I put myself on” tweeted Thugga.

But Young Thug wasn’t done. He called into question the justice of keeping children in a financially unstable environment: “I just wanna no y should a peasant with no job, or future, or apartment/house/condo have custody of a rich mans child!!!” Why indeed. Finally, Thugga sunk the solid gold teeth in with this roast:

At only 24 years of age Young Thug has already spawned an impressive litter. Experts estimate that Thug’s brood now numbers above 11. In interviews Thug has revealed that his oldest child is seven, there’s also a four year old, and at least two three year olds. Oh so he’s got twins? That’s so sweet! Guess again. It’s the R-rated Cheaper By The Dozen sequel that needs to happen.

This isn’t the first time Young Thug’s parenting or his army of miniature clones has lit up social media. Thug’s young daughter earned Instagram infamy when a video emerged of the surly 3 year old repeatedly declaring “I’m muh’fucking tired.” The video quickly went viral. Partly because it’s a benchmark in lax parenting, and partly because it so accurately expressed the mood of so many Internet users – muh’fucking tired. The little girl is kitted out with a solid gold grill, despite not having any teeth.

After copping some flack over Instagram, the Baby Mama released this lucid statement.

This would be slightly more believable if you couldn’t literally hear her coaxing her daughter to repeat the meme-worthy soundbyte over and over again.

Some people might say that a man with a song titled Extacy Pill, taken off a mixtape simply titled Lean, is not fit to be a father. But by all accounts Young Thug is a real family man. Young Thug’s mom had 11 kids, and Young Thug appreciates the struggles and fun that comes with having a big family. His entourage his made up of siblings and cousins. His sister Amina is his day-to-day manager. His mother’s favourite Young Thug song is OD, because he lists the names of all his brothers and sisters, including brother Bennie who died when he was 9. Young Thug’s mother is provided with only the best, and wears her gold grill and diamond ‘RICH GANG’ necklace with pride. There’s no doubt that Thugga can provide for his kids. As he says: “oh and I forgot, I got a mansion with 12 empty bedrooms waiting for them.”

While we all wait with bated breath for another Rich Gang collaboration, earlier today a track surfaced featuring none other than outspoken rapper Young Thug, and Rich Homie Quan. It is unclear when the track, entitled Color Purple was recorded and whether it was an intentional release by the two YMCMB alums. What is clear though is that the track is dope. Any time you reference Oprah, Danny Glover, and purple drank in the same track, you’re doing something right.

The track comes only a couple of days after Thug released another of his and Quan’s collabs, the Goose produced Phoenix. For those awaiting more Young Thug releases, it won’t be long now with Slime Season 2 set to drop on Halloween. If Thug’s performance on the first Slime Season is an indicator of future releases, the follow up is sure to be scorching.

The prolific Thug is often know more for his beef with Lil Wayne than his own music career, but he’s been stepping up his game in a big way throughout 2015. Releasing quality track after track in the lead up to Slime Season 2, and his collaborative project with rap collective Migos entitled Migos Thuggin, it looks like he’s really starting to get serious. So for those about to thug, make sure to check out the new Slime Season 2 cover art here and check out the Metro Boomin’ produced Color Purple below.

The undeniable song of the summer that is Jamie xx‘s stellar I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) has finally received some official video treatment, and the results are about as packed full of the good vibes that you would expect. Filmed in both New York and Jamaica, the clip also features guest vocalists Young Thug and Popcaan, and – not that it needed it – will more than likely see a further boost in the track’s huge popularity.

Starting off with a huge yellow plane flying an enormous rainbow banner bearing the track title (which actually happened IRL), the clip sees Jamie doing his thing in the club and Popcaan chilling atop a building, but interestingly features a LOT of Young Thug. From sitting on a floral arrangement of the words “Good Times” (which he later sets fire to) to dancing in a dingy looking driveway, it’s definitely the Thug show in this clip. However, considering he delivers most of the liberating and feel-good lyrics, we don’t mind at all. It’s fun, bright and just what you would expect for one of the best songs of this year. Check the clip below, and read our track-by-track review of Jamie xx’s In Colour here. Jamie xx will be in Australia later this year for another festival run including Beyond The Valley and Fomo.

Young Thug‘s new mixtape Slime Season hit the internet yesterday, causing a stir as it featured the track Take Kare, previously released as a Rich Gang track featuring Young Thug and Lil Wayne in October of last year. It wasn’t so much the quality of the tape as it was the featuring of said track seemed to suggest that the beef between Thug and Wayne was finally over.

In what has been a tumultuous year for Thug, Wayne, and YMCMB alum Birdman, could we be finally seeing the end of one of hip hop’s most conspicuous beefs?

Wayne, who Young Thug at different points considered his idol, even going so far as to say that he would rather record with Lil Wayne than Michael Jackson, had been embroiled in a battle over the rights to his music, even suing Birdman over the failure to release his ‘final’ album Tha Carter V before antagonising his former label by releasing a tidal exclusive track. With Carter V on the shelf, Young Thug in a respectful homage was set to name one of his mixtapes Carter 6, but was forced to change the title to Barter 6 after Wayne took umbrage to the theft of his Carter franchise.

The war of words quickly spiralled out of control. Wayne and Thug exchanged disses, with Thug going so far as to perform in Wayne’s home town on the release day of Barter 6. Obviously things had been brewing for a while, but reached a head that night when Lil Wayne’s tour bus was shot at. In a bizarre turn of events, in the indictment of the alleged shooter Jimmy “Peewee” Winfrey, Young Thug and Birdman were named, namely due to phone calls being made to each of them before, and after the shooting. In other words, shit got real.

It didn’t stop there, as Young Thug was arrested only two months later after being told to dismount his hovertrax scooter by a mall cop, his response: threatening to shoot the cop in the face. With a court date yet to be set it seemed as if the beef was finally beginning to simmer down, and like always, time appears to heal all wounds. Now with the release of Slime Season, it appears as if the feud may be over. But of course, this was a track released nearly a year ago, and I’m skeptical until we see Thug and Wayne recording again. And let’s hope it’s soon so we can get some more great collaborations.

In the latest development from one of hip hop’s rising stars, Young Thug has dropped a mixtape. Changing the name from Carter 6 to Barter 6 because he was apparently threatened with a lawsuit (*cough cough* Lil Wayne *cough cough*), he not only dropped it a day before it was scheduled for release, but also changed his tune from calling it an album to calling it a mixtape.

Along with this comes the announcement that there is a separate album due for release in August. This new album is called Hy!£UN35 (pronounced Hi-Tunes for those as confused as I was), and was announced via his record label 300 Entertainment along with the following statement:

“300 Entertainment recording artist Young Thug has announced the release of his new mixtape, BARTER 6. The collection, which marks the rapper’s first solo outing in more than two years, is available now at all digital retailers. Hy!£UN35, Young Thug’s long awaited debut album, arrives at last on August 28th. “300 is proud to present Young Thug! We believe he is a unique artist who will have a special place in the future of hip hop” – Lyor Cohen, 300 Entertainment

Back to the Lil Wayne thing for a second though. Lil Wayne is in the midst of ongoing tense relations with himself and his label Cash Money, which is run by Birdman. Wayne has been taking the necessary steps to end his contract with Cash Money, and is allegedly suing for 51 million dollars. Birdman has taken Young Thug under his wing, with the latter always citing Wayne as his favourite rapper. Then footage surfaced of Wayne telling his fans not to listen to Young Thug, whilst Young Thug had the guts to title his release Carter 6 (which was scheduled to drop before the constantly delayed Carter V from Wayne). The whole thing is pretty dramatic and also pretty hilarious as it continues to unfold. There is still no word from Wayne about this new development though.

Barter 6 is out now on Spotify and iTunes.
