Beloved maker of the best bedroom R&B of the last few years, The Weeknd has been arrested after allegedly punching a policeman in the face. The Canadian musician, real name Abel Tesfaye, reportedly got into a fight at around 4:30 am last weeknd at The Cromwell Hotel in Las Vegas.

Police were called to break up a fight, during which Tesfaye punched an police officer in the head, and was subsequently arrested for battery.

The incident follows recent news that rapper Joey Bada$$ punched a 20-year-old security guard at Falls Festival Byron. He’s due to appear at Byron Bay Local Court in March.

It’s all very bad news, because I really like The Weeknd and it sucks that he’s engaging in violence like this. Hopefully we won’t see much more of this in the future.

After spending a few hours in jail, he posted this to Instagram. So it doesn’t seem like he’s in too much trouble.

Anyway, here’s some lovely new tunes from the offender, courtesy of the 50 Shades of grey soundtrack:

No, it’s not the beginning of a bad joke.

Although the film won’t be released until Valentine’s Day this year, the lyric video of The Weeknd’s new single, featured on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack came out last month. Fifty Shades of Grey is famous for its ignominious reputation. Luckily, the song does not follow suit.

Earned It is another one of The Weeknd’s love ballads. Its lyrics are full of emotion, meshing well with its clever orchestral/ R&B backing track. The slow, seductive medley gives us a clue as to where it will be used in the film.

Though very different from his usual sound, the reaction has been really positive. His soulful voice is filled with emotion and beauty, enough for anyone to fall in love with it.

Check it out below and let us know what you think. Does it encourage you to watch Fifty Shades of Grey?

Yeah… we didn’t think so.
