We’re just hours away from ScHoolboy Q‘s highly anticipated new album Blank Face. If the excitement wasn’t enough already, Top Dawg Entertainment have just released a remix of recent single THat Part featuring hip-hop supergroup Black Hippy.
The track originally featured a guest verse from Kanye West. The remix now features Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock, along with ScHoolboy Q of course, Black Hippy’s fourth member.
As you might expect, this track is unbelievably good, and an incredibly welcome return for Black Hippy.
UPDATE: After a look through the remix’s lyrics via Genius, it’s important to note how recently Q’s verse was updated. Following the horrific shooting of Alton Sterling earlier this week, his verse criticises those who were in the car with Sterling, addresses the white police who shot him, and laments for his daughter’s upbringing:
“Enemies gotta bob and weave
Gangbangin’ like we stand for somethin’
When Alton Sterling gettin’ killed for nothin’
Two cowards in the car, they’re just there to film
Sayin’ #BlackLivesMatter should’ve died with him
Wrong nigga in your hood, you gon’ ride on him
White nigga with a badge, you gon’ let that slide?
Tell me how they sent that footage off and slept that night
I feel bad that my daughter gotta live this life
I’ll die for my daughter, gotta fight this fight
Put a Blank Face on, nigga let that drop”
Earlier in the verse, he also confirms that Ab-Soul‘s album will be the next TDE release, followed by SZA, who’s is apparently legendary, and that Isaiah Rashad‘s has already been mastered.

While TDE’s head, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith recently hinted at a TDE tour which might include Black Hippy, ScHoolboy Q recently said that the chance of a full album was unlikely, because whenever they get together, they’re having too much fun to bunker down and record. “We’re so busy, the only time we kick it is in the studio, we’d be wasting thousands of dollars… we’d just talk for hours, we don’t even wanna rap no more, when you don’t see your boys in forever, it’s just jokes.”
ScHoolboy Q’s album Blank Face will be out imminently.

As the days draw nearer to ScHoolboy Q‘s imminent album Blank Face, the 29-year-old rapper has been doing the media rounds, dropping new music, videos and information about his upcoming album and plenty more. Here’s a roundup of everything Q:
Overnight has come the video clip for Tookie Knows II: Part (2), a dramatic clip which runs for nearly nine minutes, and serves as the follow-up to last week’s By Any Means (Part 1). Tookie Knows II is the final track on his upcoming album and features the second half of last week’s video. We witness a harrowing robbery, followed by Q getting arrested and imprisoned. Much likes its predecessor, the video ends with a “to be continued” note. It’s interesting to see the approach he’s taking to these video clips – I wonder how many more will be released to continue the narrative.

Q also took the time to preview his album at a listening party in New York, during which he was interviewed by host Peter Rosenberg, from Hot 97 radio. One of the most interesting reveals to have come from the questions concerns Miguel‘s upcoming feature on the album – a feature which was apparently not chosen by the artist, who claims that his label “made” him add him onto the track Overtime, which also features Justine Skye.
According to enough tweets to make it worth listening to, he said, “It’s a bootleg ass studio song. They made me put it on the album,” going on to compare it to Studio, from his 2014 record Oxymoron.
According to Billboard, there were a number of new tidbits learnt on the night. Speaking about more album features, he revealed that Groovy Tony now has a new guest verse from Jadakiss. He goes on to talk about how his features also include E-40, Mobb Deep and Dogg Pound, noting, “If y’all noticed, I always get OGs on my albums… I usually don’t fuck with young ni**as.” However, there is an appearance from 22-year-old Vince Staples on Roll Out.
One song called John Muir hits home especially hard for Q. The song is named after his Los Angeles school, which he attended at the time he was first introduced to gang life, and in which he speaks about using a gun at age 13 and selling drugs at 14. “The beginning of me fucking with my homies from the hood,” he said. “The beginning of me stealing, robbing, getting beat up, jackin’ ni**as, getting jacked, the whole nine.”
ScHoolboy also visited Hot 97 proper for an on-air interview this week. In it, we get to know a bit more about the man himself: he hates tomato sauce, he only likes emojis if females send them to him. He speaks about his 7-year-old daughter, about Mac Miller (and his yellow teeth), and Black Hippy, his legendary supergroup featuring Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. He reveals that another Black Hippy album is unlikely. “We’re so busy, the only time we kick it is in the studio, we’d be wasting thousands of dollars…we’d just talk for hours, we don’t even wanna rap no more, when you don’t see your boys in forever, it’s just jokes.” He speaks about getting Kanye West on the record, and about being star struck when meeting Jay Z. “When I first met Jay Z, he was like ‘what up?’ I’m like, I don’t even know what to say, I had to walk away… I don’t know what to say to fuckin’ Jay Z! How can I have a conversation with Jay Z?”
The full video is well worth a watch – Q is seriously hilarious, and the interviewer is cracking up throughout.

Finally in today’s ScHoolboy roundup is a fresh performance on Late Night With Stephen Colbert. Watch him bring THat Part to life (sans Kanye West):

ScHoolboy Q’s Blank Face comes out next week on July 8, via Top Dawg Entertainment/Interscope.
Image: TDE/Youtube
ScHoolboy Q is amping things up big time ahead of his second album Blank Face. In the past week alone, he’s released a compelling trailer for the album, dropped the tracklist via Instagram, and now this. He’s unveiled a ~9 minute short film titled By Any Means (Part 1) that features the unmistakeable vocals of Kendrick Lamar.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDmSvVOogFc]
The video starts out following Quincy and his boys around South Central in Los Angeles as they roll through a series of hijinks: their dice game is busted by the fuzz, they retreat to (and get kicked out of) a nearby house to smoke up, they roast each other. Around the 6 minute mark, it transitions seamlessly into a music video for his new track By Any Means, which very clearly features Lamar. The song will be track 8 on Blank Face, which is now available for pre-order. The release will also feature collaborations with heavyweights like Kanye West, Anderson .Paak, Tha Dogg Pound, Vince Staples, SZA and more. You can check out the full tracklist and guest collaborators here.
It’s clear that another clip or two will be following this one, so keep your eyes open. Seems like the (very deserved) hype surrounding Blank Face is about to reach critical mass.
The album will be out on July 8 via TDE.

ScHoolboy Q‘s upcoming album Blank Face has got to be one of the most hyped releases of the last few months. As the days grow closer to its imminent July 8 release date, information has been trickling out, from the album cover (and its trolling predecessor) to new videos and more. The rapper has now shared the tracklist for the album, and it’s looking even better than we could have anticipated. of the seventeen tracks, eleven of them feature guest artists, and the most impressive point here is how diverse they are. TDE compatriots SZA and Lance Skiiiwalker both make appearances, alongside Kanye West on the recent single THat Part, Vince Staples on Ride Out, while gangsta legends Tha Dogg Pound feature on Big Body. Meanwhile, Miguel and Anderson .Paak will both be lending their vocal talents to Overtime (also ft. Justine Skye) and title track Blank Face, respectively.
Peep the whole tracklist below and get excited for what’s looking to be one of this year’s best hip-hop albums.

Just days after announcing a release date for his long-awaited new album, ScHoolboy Q has unleashed a new video for recent release THat Part. Both the track and the video feature Kanye West.
The track is another beautifully crafted, menacing slice of hip-hop from Q, and the video perfectly illustrates the feel. Directed by Collin Tilley and The Little Homies, the same creative team behind many videos for Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly.
Tracking ScHoolboy Q through an eerily quiet suburban world with nausea-inducing camera work, closing in and out of focus and restlessly shifting over the frame. Q inhabits this vaguely hallucinatory world with his faceless crew, an old school bus takes them over to Kanye’s similarly abandoned mansion. Kanye’s breathless and frenetic contribution has psychotic air as he rattles off “N*gga with an attitude, I feel like O’Shea / Walkin’, livin’ legend, man I feel like Kobe”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ_DHRI-Xp0
Striding through red tinted rooms, sad strippers pose on their poles while no one watches. It’s weird party vibes from Q and West, as ScHoolboy boasts “All my bitches flavored” and Kanye tells how “I just left the strip club, got some glitter on me / Wifey gonna kill me, she the female OJ”. In what sounds like a fairly unflattering allusion to Kim, before slamming the door.
Culminating in a Kanye dance off with the ScHoolboy ScHool bus, the final clip is of a phone number “1-800-351-1132”. It all may sound strange, but THat Part is possibly one of the best clips I’ve seen for a while. Matching up to the track’s looming feel, and definitely breaking out of the standard hip-hop video mould.

Top Dawg Entertainment’s ScHoolBoy Q has finally announced the release date for his long-awaited new album – the eighth of July, just over a month from now.
Sorry for tHe delay but album drops….
— ScHoolboy Q (@ScHoolboyQ) May 31, 2016
7/8/16 final date……
— ScHoolboy Q (@ScHoolboyQ) May 31, 2016
The release marks the follow-up to 2014’s phenomenal Oxymoron, his third album overall and first on a major label. Earlier this week, TDE’s Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith announced that the album would be out before summer, and with these new tweets, I’m stoked that his confirmation fell pretty close to the mark.
2016 is proving to be the best year in recent memory for hip-hop – and certainly for TDE, with Kendrick Lamar‘s untitled unmastered surprise dropping back in March, new songs from soulful new signee Lance Skiiiwalker, and recent promises of imminent new albums from both Isaiah Rashad and SZA.
ScHoolBoy Q has recently released two tracks set to feature on the album. Listen to THat Part featuring Kanye West:
And watch the video for Groovy Tony:

Now, keep in mind that release dates don’t always mean real things these days. It’s equally likely that we’ll see the release a couple days, if not weeks ahead of July 8. We’ll keep you posted on new details as they unfold.

In a short but sweet Q&A which started off about basketball, but quickly turned to music, Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony Tiffith unleashed some much needed secrets regarding the label’s many upcoming projects. Home to Black Hippy members Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, as well as SZA, Isaiah Rashad and the newly signed Lance Skiiiwalker, you can imagine how juicy some of these answers were.
The major announcement was casually made when a fan asked if the next Isaiah Rashad album was finished, Top Dawg’s reply?
yep….mixing https://t.co/as58Ys0k6d
— TOP DAWG #TDE (@dangerookipawaa) May 29, 2016
This project will be the follow up to his extremely successful 2014 release Civilia Demo, which featured collaborations with many label mates including SZA, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock. In the lead up to this heavy-anticipated release, check out Nelly and Smile, the two tracks Rashad has released which we assume will make an appearance.
Of course the good news doesn’t stop there. Tiffith also announced that both Schoolboy Q and SZA’s albums are coming soon. When a fan asked if Q’s album was dropping before summer, Tiffith answered:
hell yeah https://t.co/ln22emNbzC
— TOP DAWG #TDE (@dangerookipawaa) May 29, 2016
If this is true, it means it is imminent, considering the US summer begins around June 21. He also said that it’ll be better than his 2014 release Oxymoron; damn.
Unsurprisingly, we didn’t get any news on Kendrick, with Tiffith simply repling, “who is kendrick?” to one cheeky question about him. This isn’t exactly bad or unexpected, considering untitled unmastered is still fresh, and of course, To Pimp A Butterfly only came out last year.
All in all though it looks as if we’re about to get bombarded with some next level TDE releases, and I’m not going to lie, I’m getting all jittery just thinking about it.
its ova… i will holla at y'all in a few days with something….its all love… albums coming soon…#TDE

It might have seemed like the month of May couldn’t get any better when it came to new music. Last week alone we have new Radiohead, James Blake, Skepta and Kaytranada albums drop, not to mention the surprise release of Beyoncé‘s Lemonade and the hype of Drake‘s Views… It’s almost too much! Now it seems two other artists want to get in on the May madness, with both Chance The Rapper and ScHoolBoy Q dropped fresh material just hours ago!
Okay, so Chance first. Having been teasing this on social media over the past couple of weeks, this one wasn’t exactly a surprise. However, given that he was recently admitted into hospital with pneumonia and had to cancel a charity gig appearance, you may be forgiven for thinking this might have been put on hold. Titled Coloring Book, it includes both the new, 2 Chainz featuring single he debuted on Zane Lowe‘s Beats 1 show earlier today titled No Problem, as well as Blessings, which he debuted on Fallon last week. It’s not yet available on streaming services (watch this space), but it is available for free on iTunes (although currently just in the US at the time of writing). Having also jumped on a campaign recently to get the Grammys to recognise free music, critics are already raving about how good Coloring Book is – so let’s hope the Grammys listen up and give Chance a… chance.
Now to ScHoolBoy Q. Having released his first single in a long time last month titled Groovy Tony, it was believed by that track that Groovy Q was back with a vengeance. Now, his next single featuring none other than Kanye West, that belief has been confirmed. THat Part goes hard. Going head to head with Yeezy, the pair bounce off each other while the beat bangs. It’s thick and hazy, kind of sluggish but keeps you on your toes. Streaming now exclusive to Apple Music, you can peep a preview below to see if it takes your fancy (spoiler alert: it will).
Sigh, the music industry never stops, does it?

Today is a historic day for the NBA. Not only did the Golden State Warriors beat the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls’ long standing record for most wins in a season (73), but Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest basketballers to ever grace the court bowed out with 60 points and a five point win over the Utah Jazz.
Praise for Bryant’s achievements has been universal and come from all corners of the media and celebrity circles, including the hip-hop world. Anyone who’s a fan of either knows the close association basketball and hip-hop has. While basketball has always been huge in the States, the sport went up another level in the 1980s as hip-hop culture began to take shape. The popularity of the two wasn’t the only similarity, with basketball and hip-hop both originating from the streets and focusing on individual talent, often within a team or group environment.
As basketball and hip-hop grew into multi-million dollar industries during the 1990s, it was seen as a way out for members of the black community struggling to make ends meet while surrounded by rising gang violence. These days, the two are intertwined, with your favourite rapper’s and basketball player’s often seen hanging out together in nightclub VIP sections. Stars like Drake (the official ambassador for the Toronto Raptors) and Jay Z (an integral part of the Brooklyn Nets move from New Jersey back to Brooklyn) have become heavily involved with their home clubs. History lesson aside, Bryant’s retirement is a special event that’s led to numerous tributes from high profile hip-hop stars that you can view below.
Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z & SchoolBoyQ
As an L.A. native, Kendrick Lamar is an obvious Bryant fan, and the Compton rapper recorded a tribute to 37-year-old entitled Kobe Bryant: Fade To Black. With Lamar’s untitled 7 playing the background, K-Dot speaks on not only the impact Bryant had on him, but also his city and the wider NBA community.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JFcdpB-GWU]
Lamar was also joined at the game by good friend and Black Hippy member SchoolBoy Q and New York mogul Jay Z, with the there posing together for a picture on the NBA’s official Instagram page. Jay looks particularly stoked to be at the game.
iLoveMakonnen
iLoveMakonnen has been dropping tunes like it’s going out of fashion this week, and today he paid homage to Bryant in the form of the thumping Black Mamba Freestyle. Produced by regular collaborator Danny Wolf, Makonnen drops references about Bryant’s illustrious career, including the famous three-peat (2001-2003) and his five championship rings.

Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne has always been an admirer of Bryant for many years and was one of many celebrities in attendance at the game. Wayne took to Twitter to announce the L.A. legend as his “Favourite player forever!” and posted a picture of him and Bryant holding one of the Laker’s five title winning trophies from the Black Mamba era. But this isn’t the first time Weezy’s professed his respect for the sporting titan, having released tribute track Kobe Bryant from 2009 mixtape Tear Drop Tune 2.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCH-owsrC-A]
Kanye West
Chicago native Kanye West made sure he was centre of attention with his custom made “I Feel Like Kobe” long sleeve tee, inspired by his The Life Of Pablo merchandise. The back of the yellow tribute tee was emblazoned with the phrases, “Los Angeles Lakers”, “Mamba Day 4.13.16.,” and “Kobe Bryant Lower Merion’s Finest,” in Old-English font. Hopefully these will be available soon because I want one.

Well if this news doesn’t rev you all the way up. Following a not-so-cryptic Tweet from founder Anthony Tiffith earlier today, it was reported that we would have a fresh new release from an unnamed member of the hip-hop Avengers in Top Dawg Entertainment.
This was huge news considering how well their last surprise release, went, so you can tell exactly how excited we all were for what was to come. Tiffith had already laid out the detailed plan for TDE releases earlier this year like it was the Marvel Universe, so it was plausible that he could have been talking about any of its associated artists with his Tweet this morning.
All we were praying for was that this wouldn’t be another TIDAL fuckup exclusive.
Wonder no further though, because it’s a brand spanking new single from Black Hippy cornerstone Quincy Matthew Hanley: the artist better known as ScHoolboy Q. Titled Groovy Tony, the single has just been released on Apple Music and you can have yourself a listen here as well as a watch of its accompanying music video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iJDXIOk0bg
This is the first taste of what is to come on ScHoolboy Q’s latest, as-yet-untitled fourth studio album. A follow-up that has some incredibly lofty expectations after the enormous success of his third LP Oxymoron in 2014. It’s a gritty and grimy banger, a minimalistic backbeat over which ScHoolboy spits in his trademark sneer. His violent and nihilistic rhymes weave a narrative of an antihero surviving and thriving around narcotics, theft and murder all with a perpetual ‘blank face’.
ScHoolboy Q paints a chilling portrait of street life in Groovy Tony and it seems as though he’s picking up exactly where he left off with Oxymoron, a record absolutely riddled with certified bangers and one that left fans old and new positively salivating for more new material from the South Central MC.
No further details yet on when his next album is due but one would have to presume that it’s in the very near future after today.
