Famed Facebook page and website I Fucking Love Science is one of my daily go-to’s for news and interesting stuff, and today they posted something up that’s not only interesting, but cool and music-related, meaning I can write about it here!
Pink Floyd are, and will always be one of my all time favourite bands. They’re one of the greatest bands in history, in my opinion anyway.
The video below is an official clip, (admittedly released almost a year ago but hey, better late than never,) for their instrumental track Marooned. It was unveiled as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of The Division Bell
The first half of the video features footage of space, filmed from a window of the International Space Station. It’s beautiful and breathtaking and exactly what you want to see while listening to a song like this
Sometimes it’s nice to just take a moment out of your busy day and enjoy something like this. I have, and I hope you do too.
Last week saw the final ever performance at the iconic Earl’s Court Arena in London. The gig was Bombay Bicycle Club, but they were joined by one very special guest: Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour.
Floyd have a long history of playing at Earl’s Court, having first played there way back in 1973. To mark the end of an era, Gilmour got up on stage – his first performance since a one-off in 2011 – for a gorgeous rendition of BBC’s Rinse Me Down, followed by his own Wish You Were Here.
The two bands actually have a little history, interestingly. BBC guitarist Jamie MacColl reportedly said at the show, “This man gave me my first guitar and was one of the first people to play this venue and by my count has played here more than 27 times.”
It was a night of guests, memories and more. Opening act Peace also paid homage to one of the greatest rock bands to frequent the venue, covering Led Zeppelin’s classic blues track Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You. Frontman Harry Koisser said, “This morning I woke up at 7am and watched Led Zeppelin playing here in 1975. It looked great, so we decided to cover them, which I know you’re not supposed to do…”
Anyway, here’s some fan-shot footage of the big moment:
