Adult Swim has announced it will be releasing 15 – yes, 15 – never-before-heard DOOM tracks over the next 15 weeks.
The tracks were allegedly received as a folder called “The Missing Notebook Rhymes”, and they consist of original tracks and upcoming songs that contain guest verses from metalface himself.
While no tracklist has been shared, we’re told to expect one track from Jay Electronica, and the first track to be released has been taken from the great Sean Price‘s forthcoming posthumous album iMPERIUS REX.

Adult Swim went on to say that “these missing notebooks were last seen at the METALFACE L.A. office when DOOM was denied entry into the US 7 years ago.” It also links to a website (which looks like a DOOM-specific music blog and merch store) to contact “if you have any information on the whereabouts of these notebooks”.
Whether this is just a bit of playful lore to accompany the release, or whether it’s actually true, is anyone’s guess, but it does put into question the ‘newness’ of the tracks. Given that we’d do just about anything for 15 new slices of DOOM, we don’t really care either way.
Jay Electronica has been one of the more polarising figures in hip-hop over the years, though not because of music or anything like that – the opposite, in fact. His silence has spoken very, very loudly.
Today marks the release of a new long-awaited new solo track, Letter to Falon. It’s yet another standalone single that’ll hopefully end up on the mysterious debut album we’ve been waiting at least a decade to hear.
It’s actually remarkable that once artist can promise something for so long, to no effect, and still maintain a loyal fanbase. That said, when your last single was so unbelievably good it’s been considered the greatest conscious rap song of all time, people will nevertheless keep paying attention for years to come.
Jay has guested on quite a few songs over the years, by artists including Rapsody, Royce Da 5’9, Mac Miller, and of course Big Sean‘s Control, alongside Kendrick Lamar. Last year he also appeared on How Great from Chance the Rapper‘s Colouring Book, and Garden by Emeli Sande.
In 2012, a track list was revealed for Jay’s supposed album, Act II: The Patents of Nobility. A Letter To Falon was listed then as the ninth track on the album. About half the album’s tracks have since been released or leaked in one way or another.
Perhaps Jay Electronica season is finally approaching.

It’s been one hell of a wait for fans hoping to get a sequel to Jay Electronica‘s 2007 mixtape The Pledge, but in an unexpected turn of events, it turns out we might be in for a treat in the coming weeks.
The New Orleans emcee has been frusratingly quiet in recent years, including a last-minute cancellation at Splendour in the Grass last year. However, he did manage to drop The Curse Of Mayweather in February, a powerful track which fired shots at esteemed rappers Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent, and recently featured on one of the best albums of the year (even though it’s technically a mixtape), Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book.
Throughout the years we’ve been fooled by Jay’s ever-hopeful words. In 2011 he said, “Album soon come. I will not let any of you down. I promise. I will not let any of you down. I promise.” Five years later, we are still waiting.
Now, though, there is another a glimmer of hope, with Jay taking to Twitter to send out some ever so optimistic news. Explaining that “every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts,” he describes his vision for a trilogy of tapes. The first, the five-track-deep mixtape titled The Pledge, and the second being the (hopefully) soon to be released The Turn where “the magician takes something ordinary and makes it do something extraordinary.”
The real kicker came from next: “To all of you who have been patient with me and supported me over the years, thank you. And get #Tidal #AreYouWatchingClosely”
So, fans, get Tidal within the next 40 days:
This is undoubtably the biggest confirmation from Jay that we’ve heard since The Pledge, so this better lead somewhere special. That said, Jay then deleted his Twitter account, so let’s hope he’s planning to return with something up his sleeve – and that something damn well better be an album.

Jay Electronica has continued with his attacks on both Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent in his new track #TBE The Curse of Mayweather.
The New Orleans rapper references both rappers in the new track, and it follows on from a Periscope session he did last month where he similarly voiced his negative opinions of them both.
During the live feed at the time, Jay said of 50 Cent, “At once, he was a good rapper. Right now he got the potential to be a rapper, but he’s on some sucker shit.”
On the newly released track the rapper criticises Kendrick Lamar for his supposed obsession with winning awards and gaining recognition. “Man fuck these white people/ My grandmother died at 82 scrubbing floors, and n**gas still running around begging for awards.”
While also turning his attention to 50 Cent, he said, “I might be on Periscope gettin’ pissed/ Talkin’ reckless, contemplatin’ all-out war with Fif.”
Alongside the unveiling of the track, Jay also found time to send out a number of since-deleted tweets where he warned, “ain’t nobody safe no more. Either you with me or against me.”
50 Cent responded with a questioning of the rappers credentials as he claimed not to know who Jay Electronica even was. But Jay countered this while threatening to expose the In Da Club hit maker as a “coward.”
The Louisiana rapper has yet to release a full length record of his own, but is highly regarded within the industry. He first gained recognition in 2007, before releasing Exhibit A and Exhibit C, created with renowned producer Just Blaze.
The 39-year old has sporadically released singles since signing with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label in 2010, and has been featured as a special guest on a number of tracks over the years.

Looks like we finally got Jay Electronica on the mic; well, he opened a Periscope account (a live video streaming app) and had a fairly vocal live stream session on Friday. Take what we can get, right?
Jay seemed rather comfortable in front of the camera, driving around Miami, bumping the new Future album and answering the fan and viewer questions. That was until someone asked him to play some Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick’s name had come up a few times during the conversation about raps popular topics, and it seems that Jay had had enough, responding by saying he only liked Kendrick’s Gunplay collab, Cartoon & Cereal, jokingly suggesting (at 6:00) that “other than that we don’t know what n—a talking about.”

Later on, however, Jay backpedalled, defending the Compton rapper. “Don’t say fuck Kendrick, that’s still our brother,” he said. But when someone decided to say K.Dot could body Jay in a battle, he went off again: “Kendrick is my son, Kendrick is my baby, Kendrick wishes he could be me.” (at 12:40)
Both rappers appeared on Big Sean‘s Control, and Jay called Kendrick’s verse the third best after his own and Big Sean’s. “He really didn’t say anything,” he wrote at the time, “no shots. Everyone knows I like Kendrick. But facts are facts.”

We’ve been expecting an album from Jay since he signed to Roc Nation in 2010. By 2012, Act II: Patent of Nobility finally had a tracklist with features and everything. Kanye West, Jay Z, Diddy, and Erykah Badu were all going to be on it. It was set to be amazing. But now it’s 2016 and … nothing.
He can’t really think Kendrick wants ‘to be him’ when To Pimp a Butterfly has numerous accolades and is his third studio album. You don’t trash talk when you’re down three goals – champions let the scoreboard do their trash talking.
Jay did, however, have mostly good things to say about artists like Drake and Freddie Gibbs, but when 50 Cent‘s name was brought up, he just couldn’t help himself. “Right now he got the potential to be a rapper but he’s on some sucker shit … and we will slap 50 Cent’s eyeballs loose out his scalp” (at 12:00).
