Brisbane MC Gallu$ has been a name we’ve been watching with a whole lot of anticipation throughout the latter half of 2015. He represents a new wave of Australian hip hop that we’d all love to pin our hopes and dreams on, and thankfully he has been all kinds of busy since we last checked in on him following the release of his scorching debut single Versatile/Apathetic just a few short months ago.

Not content to rest on his laurels or to let his reputation ride for too long on the back of one (very well-received) track, Gallu$ has since released a fantastic accompanying music video for Versatile/Apathetic, backing up his first video for the track Basic Bitch which we scooped the pleasure of premiering, he’s played a handful of shows in Brisbane and, in most recent news, has dropped his sophomore effort, a nifty little track called Purgatory.

Featuring some off-kilter trap beats and a beautifully laid back though no less laser-precise verse from Gallu$ that juxtaposes perfectly with the frenetic alley oop verse from the featured Carmouflage Rose, the production is crisper than a cold green apple, the hook of ‘rolling hydro, blow it out the window’ one that should absolutely resonate with listeners and overall Purgatory is just a wonderful follow-up. A solid continuation of the same brand of high-quality hip hop that has Gallu$ setting the underground scene ablaze and catching the eye of radio stations like Triple J, who have given Versatile/Apathetic some well-deserved airtime since it dropped and should pick up the ball on Purgatory.

We did mention there was still ample time to get on the Gallu$ bandwagon. Releases like this are only going to generate a whole tidal wave of hype behind the young MC heading into 2016. If you want to catch him spitting flames in a live environment you’d be well serve to costume up and head to The Brightside in Brisbane for Bedlam Records ‘Deadlam’ Halloween shindig, where you’ll catch Gallu$ sharing a stage with Bedlam stablemates like Twin Haus and Baskervillain as well as Young Lions and Kaleidoscope.

Hopefully he doesn’t leave us hanging between releases too long.

It’s been a wicked 2015 for Brisbane label Bedlam Records. They’ve masterminded wildly successful releases and tours for bands like The Durries and Boss Moxi as well as the fantastic Live at Bedlam series featuring bands like The Murlocs. They’re also getting into the hip hop game, facilitating the drop of Versatile/Apathetic, the debut single from Brisbane-via-Sudan emcee, Gallu$

If that name is familiar to you, it’s because we also had the absolute flippin’ privilege of premiering the most fire Passion Pop in a parking lot music video of 2015 for Basic Bitch. And if the name isn’t familiar then I’m banking that it will be in the real near future, because holy heck, this is an auspicious as fuck debut.

With a flow he accurately describes as both ‘acidic’ and ‘sicker than a virus’, Gallu$ comes out the gate putting his critics and competitors alike on blast. The production by Thovobeats is smooth and deliciously jazzy, the intermingling keys and horns providing a laid-back coolness that juxtaposes perfectly with Gallu$’ brash lyrics, which are as clever as they are aggressive and delivered with the aplomb of a much more seasoned MC. My only qualm is that the experience lasts a mere two and a half minutes, I was fiending for more.

Versatile/Apathetic is a bold flag planted in a burgeoning hip hop scene featuring artists like Remi, Baro and Midas.Gold, but when it’s backed up by such a wonderful combination of slick production and raw talent, everyone best be on notice.

Jump on the Gallu$ bandwagon while there’s still seats.

Any song that has the lyrics “I bet that I’d look good in a Lamborghini” delivered whilst sitting on a Mitsubishi Magna and drinking Passion Pop in a brown paper bag alright by me. More than alright. In fact, I enjoyed this song so much I had to lock down the first look ever at the clip.

That’s right! Today we are so excited to bring to you the premiere of Basic Bitch, a collaborative track between two of Brisbane’s next up-and-comers. Gallu$ and Term T turn the fuck up in this track, which is a whole heap of fun – even if some lyrics can be a little brutal.

The duo bounce off each other seamlessly, like they’ve been doing this since forever. The Lincoln States produced track is heavy on the bass, trap oriented and fit both rappers’ styles perfectly. Whilst Gallu$ goes in with lines like “No brains but a big butt/ That’s ass over wisdom”, Term T keeps it real, casually big noting himself and delivering the fiery hook.

Take my advice and keep your eyes firmly locked on these two, I am predicting even bigger things to come!
