Legendary hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest will reunite for a performance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon later this week.

This will be the group’s first performance since they opened for Kanye West on his Yeezus tour in 2013. ATCQ member Q-Tip had previously announced these would be the trio’s last performances.

On the same day as this performance, the group will release a special 25th anniversary edition of their debut LP, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. The reissue will include remixes from the likes of Pharrell Williams, CeeLo Green, and J. Cole.

Upon announcing this release, which will be followed by reissues of their other albums, Q-Tip shared his thoughts via press release: “I had this album in my head for years before I did it.  Looking at it overall, to see the thoughts of a 16 year old gain any kind of acknowledgement makes me feel like I have arrived … But to see it in this incarnation … I’m humbled.”

Fellow member Ali Shaheed Muhammad explained the significance of their first album, saying, “This album means a lot. It was the beginning of our careers; the beginning of our imprint; the beginning of seeing life the way we saw it, and being able to put it down in words and music.”

This Saturday’s performance will feature all four founding members: Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and even Jarobi White, who left the group prior to the release of their second album The Low End Theory.

Police have raided Lil Wayne’s Miami Beach mansion due to outstanding debts owed to a private jet company.

In September of this year, Lil Wayne and his label Young Money Entertainment lost a lawsuit after failing to make regular $55,000 (U.S.) payments on his private jet lease – he owed over $2 million in the suit, in addition to $200,000 in lawyer and court fees.

The Miami-based Signature Group, who leased Lil Wayne the private jet, even had the aircraft customised for his particular preferences, such as satellite phones, a custom bed, and medical equipment.

After Signature Group’s legal team was able to prove to a county judge that there were assets inside the waterfront house, the judge authorised the break in.

The rapper’s house, in which he was not residing at the time, was raided last Tuesday, with police seizing artwork from Weezy’s reported $30 million collection.

Lil Wayne used Twitter to comment on the raid, remaining thankful for his family in this time of inconvenience:

Lil Wayne’s previous troubles with the law include cancelling three shows after receiving an advance $100,000 payment for them, failing to pay a producer for his services, and a whole bunch of unpaid royalties cases.

Art Angels, the fourth album by Grimes, will be released tomorrow (Friday, 6th November) and the opening track of the album has been released today.

Hyped as Grimes’ crossover opportunity, the album features less of Grimes’ high pitched and heavily reverbed vocals, nor does her ethereal synth-pop sound remain.

Art Angels leaked earlier this week to a mostly positive reception. 4AD will release the album physically on December 11.

The lead single, Flesh Without Blood, features pop rock instrumentation and strong hooks.

The more vibrant sound of Art Angels is due partly to the more enjoyable circumstances of its conception, as opposed to the sleep-deprived, drug-fuelled process of Visions: “I was a much weaker person when I wrote Visions. It was a sad record – cathartic, but victim-y. During this album I’ve got control of my music. It feels more developed. On Visions I was still in school, mentally. Since then, I’ve wanted to make something strong and aggressive because it’s more reflective of me,” she told Q.

Grimes employs a new arsenal of instruments, including the violin and the ukulele, in this departure from her distinct brand of electropop. More prominent beats signal the transition into commercial pop territory.

After scrapping an album’s worth of material last year, Grimes has produced 14 tracks, including collaborations with soul singer Janelle Monae and female Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes. Art Angels also includes REALiTi, originally released as a demo from the lost album in March of this year.

The South by South West fatal crash victims’ family and friends have begun providing testimony in the capital murder trial of Rashad Owens.

In March 2014, Owens drove his car into a crowd at the 2014 South by Southwest festival, resulting in four deaths and over twenty injuries.

It’s been confirmed that police have now charged Owens with murder and capital murder, to which he has pleaded not guilty. A guilty verdict could result in life in prison for the 23-year-old. Owens, an aspiring rapper, is a father of six.

Owens was fleeing from a police officer when he plowed his Honda through a crowd, moments after speeding the wrong way down a one way street. He has admitted to drinking beforehand, and has previously been convicted for driving while intoxicated.

An officer on the scene, Michael Hankemeier, said, “I never once saw brake lights.”

Hankemeier also testified that the collision threw a woman into the air nearly as high as overhead utility lines.

A witness and friend of 18-year-old victim DeAndre Tatum struggled through tears to recall her experience.

“I remember coming from the food truck,” said Erica Hall. “We were trying to get something to eat…then I remember waking up on the stretcher.”

DIIV have released the second single from their upcoming LP Is the Is Are, in addition to announcing a February release for the album.

Bent (Roi’s Song) is distinct among DIIV’s discography due to its lack of reverb, which frontman and guitarist Zachary Cole Smith justified as added emphasis on lyrical content.

Smith explained via tumblr that “roi’s song is about a lot of people, including myself, and our struggles along the path to clarity, sanity, and sobriety.”

The first taste of the album came last September, when the band shared Dopamine.

Smith announced some additional details regarding the new album, with particular emphasis on diversifying their sonic palette: “it is a diverse record, it is a happy record, a sad record, a happysad, sadhappy, mad, glad, quiet, mad, dark, glad, poppy, fast, slow, heavy, fast, peaceful, angry, chaotic, beautiful, lost/found, ugly, dry, wet, fuck, fast, dead, heartbroken, in love, loud, quiet, loud, loudquiet, quietloud, happy, mad, quiet, fuck, and loud record.”

Despite Smith’s intentions, the first two tracks from Is the Is Are have not represented a major stylistic departure for DIIV. The issue of sameness, which Smith is apparently trying to address, that applied to DIIV on their debut LP may still apply, however anyone who loves DIIV’s sound should enjoy the new track.

Is the Is Are will be officially released by Captured Tracks on February 5, 2016.
