Placebo Announce Australian Arena Tour

Brian Molko and his merry band of androgynous power-poppers, Placebo, have announced their biggest Australian tour to date. The tour is in celebration of their 20th anniversary as a band. The world tour was announced more than a year ago, and they’ll finally be touching down in Australia this to perform at some of the country’s largest venues.

“We’re happy to be coming back to Australia this September to deliver fans something extra special,” Molko says. Last March he revealed that the 20th anniversary sets would contain songs “that I’ve sworn never to play again,” before resolving, “it’s time that we purposefully acknowledged what a lot of Placebo fans really want to hear. They’ve been very patient with us since we rarely play our most commercially successful material.

A 20 year anniversary tour seems like the right time to do so. That’s our intention. This tour is very much for the fans and a chance for us to revisit a lot of our early material. So, if you want to see us play songs like ‘Pure Morning’ and ‘Nancy Boy’ which we haven’t played in almost ten years and may not play again, then you’d better come along to these shows! We’ll have some surprises in there too.”

It sounds like a pretty depressing resolve, honestly, but we’re hardly complaining: the old material is precisely what we wanna hear, and we’re finally gonna get it.

Dates can be found below. A ticket pre-sale will run for Telstra customers from Friday May 26 at midday until 8pm on May 28. General tickets can be found here from midday on Monday May 29.
