Christopher Port Dishes Out Two New Singles

It’s still over a month out from Christmas, but Melbourne producer and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Port is already in a very giving mood. He’s gone double or nothing with his latest release, tossing out two fantastic new tracks at once in the shape of My Love and Sum 1 (His Eye Is On The Sparrow edit).

The former is cleverly off-kilter, warm and fuzzy synths dancing with drunken beats. The vocals are heavenly reminiscent of mid-90s dance pop, criss-crossing pitch changes building along with the backbeat as the track goes on. The synths start to shimmer around the halfway mark before the beat becomes concentrated and the vocals finally take off the way they’d been threatening to do for the first three minutes. This is euphoria-building song structure at its finest.

The latter draws on musical history and plants a similar focus on vocals, a shuffling backbeat and minimalistic synths contrasting masterfully with a gorgeous vocal sample from the late Whitney Houston. Port rightfully lets Houston’s inimitable voice highlight the track and it makes for breathtaking listening.

This latest release comes on the eve of busy times for Port, with live dates at Paradise Music Festival as well as one of the biggest Melbourne Music Weeks in years. He’ll take a bit of time off before opening the New Year with a pair of shows in support of London trio Haelos.

With releases as consistently good as this backed up by an already masterfully produced back catalogue already, Christopher Port is going to continue to be a rising star in 2017.
