Ice-T to Drop New Album With Thrash Metal/Rap Group Body Count

When he’s not busy solving some of New York’s more brutal crimes as Detective Odafin Fin Tutuola, or watching his wife Coco spend his money, Ice-T is the vocalist for rap/thrash metal group Body Count, and Ice-T has now revealed that the group will be putting out a new album in 2017.

Fortunately, fans have only been waiting two years for this album, unlike the seven years they waited for the 2014 album Manslaughter. Ice-T told Revolver Magazine that “We did [Manslaughter] to test the water to see if there was still a market for our music. And it worked. People were excited to see the band, so once we got that foothold we decided to go back out and hit ‘em with everything we’ve got.”

The new album is set tentatively set for release early next year. For those familiar with Ice-T and Body Count’s style, it will come as no surprise that the album will be appropriately titled Bloodlust. Bloodlust will feature political songs, gang-oriented cuts and horror based numbers that all revolve around the central theme of the title track.

“Bloodlust is part of the human makeup. Murder is about as normal as love. It’s in our nature to want to get violent and kill, but we know there are consequences. That’s why we like violent movies, video games and combat sports. It’s in our DNA. It’s what we are.”

Whether you agree that violence is in our DNA or not, there is no denying the brilliance of Ice-T’s lyrics, no matter if he raps over a bassy rap track or a heavy metal thrasher Ice-T will always kill it. “I like to start with hot metal tracks that you can listen to without a word on them and go, ‘Wow, that was just like fire!’ The music tells me what the song is about, and that’s when the words start coming to me. Then it’s up to me not to fuck it up.”

Since 2017 is a little ways off and with no official release date we will just have to give Manslaughter another spin and hope that Detective ‘Fin’ Tutuola stays safe out there on the mean streets.
