Lil Wayne Releases New Track “Grateful”

Days after scaring fans with tweets about feeling “mentally defeated” and threatening his retirement, Lil Wayne has released a new track, aptly called Grateful. The track features Gudda Gudda and was produced by StreetRunner and Rugah Ruh.

Listen here via Tidal, where it is streaming exclusively:

I won’t lie, it is not my favourite Lil Wayne track. But at this point in time, any output from the troubled star is welcomed with open arms.

Wayne has suffered a series of health scares recently, as well as increasingly difficult, ongoing legal battles with Cash Money Records, which is mentioned in the song’s lyrics. Recently, friends and fans have heaped support and encouragement onto him, including Kendrick Lamar, who just released this video pleading for Wayne to stay in the game.

It’s unclear whether this track is very new or not, nor do we know if this is tied to any particular project. Considering the (extremely expensive and legally complex) hoops he’s reportedly having to jump through thanks to Cash Money, and to an extent, Universal, it’s unlikely that this is an official single from The Carter V.

Hopefully we’ll be hearing more from him in the coming months.
