There’s a New Queer-Friendly Hip-Hop Night in Brisbane, “Good Kids”

If you lived in Brisbane in the last couple of years, you might remember Cheated Hearts being one of the best queer-friendly nights the city had to offer. Providing a safe space for absolutely anyone of any orientation or expression to have a ripper of a time while throwing down to some utter bangers, Cheated Hearts was held in high regard as a fantastic alternative outing in Brisbane’s ever-thriving queer scene.

With its absence in 2016 leaving quite the palpable hole in Brisbane’s nightlife, the 10/10 folks behind Cheated Hearts are back this week and launching a brand new event. This Friday in Fortitude Valley marks the launch of Good Kids, a queer-friendly hip-hop night at Warner Street’s Barbara and promises to have everyone in attendance dancing uncontrollably to the best hip-hop in the game right now.

Featuring DJ sets from former Cheated Hearts regulars Jane Doe and Sophie Luna as well as Sullivan Patten, the Barbara sound system will be positively thrumming with the likes of Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky, Childish Gambino and so many more of hip-hop’s biggest names past, present and future. Most importantly, Good Kids is a chance to enjoy hip-hop in a low-key environment with nothing but warm and inclusive vibes, something you just can’t get at other hip-hop nights.

A crisp little tenner is all it will cost you to get beyond the doors once they open at 8pm, but you really can’t put a price on cracking tunes, well-priced drinks and nothing but the slickest people around to share it all with. Space at Barbara comes at a premium, so you’ll have to get in right quick to avoid the inherent sorrow that will come with missing out on the launch of what promises to be an amazing new night out at Good Kids.
