El-P: “Every word for RTJ3 has been recorded”

Great news, jewel runners: one half of the hip-hop duo, producer and rapper El-P, has tweeted out big news that every single word of their forthcoming Run The Jewels 3 has been recorded, and that the album is nearly done.

Behold:

It’s been two years since Run The Jewels dropped the monumental RTJ2, and we’ve been counting down until RTJ3 ever since. While both El-P and Killer Mike have fruitful solo catalogues, something sparked when the two officially came together, which took place after El produced Mike’s last solo album R.A.P Music, and Mike featured on El’s last solo album, Cancer 4 Cure.

The pair have teased snippets and sounds on social media, at Coachella, and most recently in an ad for upcoming game Gears of War 4.

Back in March, El-P stated that the record was halfway done. They had previously told fans the album wouldn’t be out until 2017, but at this stage a 2016 release still seems plausible. Either way, bring it on.

Both Killer Mike and El-P have also been busy on numerous other projects around their work on RTJ3. Zack De La Rocha recently released an El-P-produced single, while Mike featured on Tkay Maidza’s new song, and is rumoured to be collaborating with Big Boi on an upcoming project.
