Do You Even SPIT BRO is Back for Volume 6.

Do You Even SPIT BRO is back for its sixth installment. Volume 6 is on September 3rd and will be held at Bar 12 in Frankston. It will feature local MCs: Beni B; Oatsie, who recently supported The Funkoars on their Mad As Hell tour; Harvest, who is eager to spit new material from his Letterheads LP; Solex, who is no stranger to rocking Frankston gigs; Mistress Of Ceremony, who will be coming off the back of opening for Strange Music MC Rittz.

With DJ Wallzee kicking off the night and DJ Rels spinning the rest of the night.

Do You Even SPIT BRO an Aussie hip-hop event held in Frankston every three months. The event features locally sourced MCs and DJs performing 20-40minute sets, with an open-mic cypher to get the rhymes flowing.

The event is run by three Frankston locals Steve Oates AKA Oatsie, Stuart Wilson AKA DJ Rels, and Ben Williamson AKA Beni B, who source talent from other local gigs and the Internet.

“I try to source local artists and people who are coming up in the scene who are not too well known,” Oatsie said. “There is a lot of talent down in the Southeastern suburbs so finding good artists hasn’t been much of a problem yet.”

Back in 2013 Obese Records owner Pegz recognised the demand for a cultural hub in Frankston after noting a large portion of hip-hop enthusiasts inhabited the bayside region. Although, Obese Records have shut their doors, it is good to see that the next generation has also recognised the need to promote the Frankston scene.

“It started because I was sick of traveling so far to play gigs and dragging all my friends along to perform in front of small crowds,” Oatsie said. “The first event was for my birthday and I decided to have it at a local pub and invited a few of my mates along to perform on the night. The owners of the venue were quite impressed with the show we put on and asked if we’d like to do it monthly. It all kind of took off from there.”

Be sure to get down and check out some of amazing local hip-hop. Tickets are available at State Of The Art (3 Olsen St Frankston) for $8, or $10 on the door. Every ticket bought will receive raffle tickets, 5 for punter who buy from State Of The Art and 1 for punter who buy tickets on the door.

“State Of The Art have backed us with selling tickets from the store for the gig and contributing towards the raffle,” DJ Rels said. “They have also helped promote the gigs through their social media outlets.”
