Savemoney member Towkio has officially announced plans to self-release new EP Community Service 2 on July 7. The Chicago MC’s first project since 2015’s .Wav Theory, the latest EP is slated to include fellow Savemoney members Vic Mensa and Joey Purp, along with production from such names as Mr Carmack and Peter Cottontale. Recorded under the guidance of production icon Rick Rubin, Community Service 2 follows previous Savemoney releases from Vic Mensa, Joey Purp and Chance the Rapper earlier in the year.
Having been lauded as a rapper to watch by many publications and trendsetters this year already, Towkio is not far removed from the sounds of his more famous Savemoney cohorts, incorporating influences of jazz and soul with the hysteria of adventurous hip-hop. Having cited Kanye West and Lil Wayne as major influences, Towkio has long been regarded as one of the most charismatic, energetic members of the increasingly popular Savemoney movement coming out of Chicago.
In announcing the news of his upcoming project, Towkio has also taken the opportunity to offer fans the first release from the EP in newest track Tear Drop. Hear the first taste of Community Service 2 below, and revisit .Wav Theory here.
