I Oh You has quickly become a label synonymous with success in the last few years. Boasting names on their roster like City Calm Down, DMA’s, DZ Deathrays and Violent Soho, it’s been a case of the Midas touch for the young label, and they’ve this week added another brand new name to their burgeoning family, Forster’s Jack River.
You may only just be hearing the name Jack River but she has been around for a number of years. Going by the name of Holly Rankin by day, she is a multi-instrumentalist who has been producing and releasing her own tracks online, including her debut EP in 2013, before being picked up by I Oh You.
Her signing was announced only yesterday and was followed by her debut single Talk Like That premiering on Triple J as well as the announcement of her next EP that is presently being mixed by Ben Allen, an excellent pair of hands to be in considering he’s worked previously with names like M.I.A. and Cut Copy among others.
Talk Like That is almost hypnotic, whispery and atmospheric production swirling around River’s reverberating vocals and a chorus that absolutely levitates higher and higher each time. Credit River here, she is still producing her own music and looks to be just as proficient at the desk as she is behind the microphone.
With everyone on the I Oh You roster coming up with nothing but goods, we should expect no different from their latest member in Jack River. Look for her name to be splashed across the rest of 2016 and beyond.
