Perth jazz-hop outfit Koi Child have been riding one hell of a wave of late, having garnered the endorsement of one Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, the former earning a spot on tour with the latter with Parker taking them further under his wing as producer of their self-titled debut album, which was released earlier this year. Furthering their upward trajectory, they’ve just released their latest single from that record in Touch ‘Em.
One of the more bombastic songs on Koi Child, Touch ‘Em ramps the energy into overdrive, a thick horn section bouncing over a fat-as-hell drum beat while frontman Cruz Patterson leads proceedings with a spitfire flow that ducks and weaves across the first half of the track. Throw into the mix a silky smooth breakdown and a pair of cracking solos on the trombone and the saxophone and you have an instant classic Koi Child track that is sure to go all the way off in a live environment. Have a listen yourself below:
If you’re keen to see that belter and a whole host of others given the live treatment, in addition to the release of Touch ‘Em, Koi Child have also announced a run of upcoming shows across the country. The tour will begin with multiple dates around Western Australia before the band head across the Nullabor for some club shows in Melbourne and Sydney. See below for details and don’t miss your chance to catch one of the most hyped young acts in the country.
