Long-standing electronic music stalwarts Red Bull Music Academy will be hosting a Red Bull Music Academy Weekender across Sydney from the 8th-11th of September. Rolling out over four days, the Weekender’s Australian visit will bring together 40 artists over 11 shows, workshops and artist talks. Bringing together music legends and emerging beatsmiths, each night will take its own musical focus on Australia’s electronic music culture.
Thursday’s Night Moves will feature Night Slugs’ Bok Bok, Kilo Kish, Marcus Whale,Cliques, Low Ton, Kllo, Kučka and Lewis Cancut bringing their club sounds to Oxford Art Factory.
Friday’s Talk to the Sea will feature an ambient set at Sydney Harbour National Park by Venetian producer Gigi Masin before legendary LA-based label Stones Throw takes over Sydney’s Manning Bar with an all-star lineup of J Rocc, Mndsgn, Katalyst and label head Peanut Butter Wolf.
On Saturday Flight Facilities again be teaming up with a 50-piece ensemble of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to headline a huge orchestral show at The Domain, following on from their similar performance in Melbourne last year.
Closing out the event on Sunday will be Great Antipodean Reggae Soundsystem Carnival, replete with BBQs, dancehall workshops and Soundsystem shattering sets from Earthshaker Soundsystem, Heartical Hi Powa with Stryka D & Macky Banton World MC, K.B.I Soundsystem , Inner West Reggae Disco Machine and Gappy Ranks.
Not limited to conventional performances, the festival will also feature the Ta-Ku‘s music documentary (m)edian, a lecture by house music architect Larry Heard (a.ka. Mr.Fingers) and number of one-of-a-kind workshops.
