Godspeed You! Black Emperor have today found a new platform for their immersive, intimate post-rock, with their song Gathering Storm featured in a commercial in comedy show Silicon Valley, for the show’s company Pied Piper.
The Montreal-based musical legends famously turned down numerous offers in the late 90’s and 2000’s to have their music featured in films, but have steadily allowed their music into the world of film in recent years.
For those who haven’t caught up yet, Silicon Valley is a great satirical HBO comedy, exploring the world of start-ups and big business in Silicon Valley, through the journey of “middle out compression” company Pied Piper. The show has also unleashed an incredible soundtrack across its two seasons, with songs from Run The Jewels, Alabama Shakes, Pusha T and more heard throughout.
In this episode, Pied Piper design a TV advertisement for the company, soundtracked by GY!BE’s soothing Gathering Storm. The ad ticks all the boxes for cheesy metaphors, hitting every cliché on its head in hilarious style. The music adds a hyperbolised sense of authenticity.
