Coachella was an endless feast of incredible collaborations, covers, surprise guests and more. While he wasn’t playing a set of his own, Kendrick Lamar surprised fans by playing on stage with Ice Cube and Anderson .Paak. While snippets of Instagram videos were previously available of his performance with Anderson .Paak, someone has now uploaded a full five-minute video of his hectic rendition of Backseat Freestyle during Paak’s performance.
While Paak and Lamar haven’t released a direct collaboration just yet, they have crossed paths a number of times, most notably on Dr. Dre‘s album Compton last year. One can only assume (or at least just hope) that the pair will join forces in future.
Paak, who was performing music from his gorgeous January release Malibu, teased his audience at first, announcing, “We gon’ play this shit, we gon’ see if you all know who this is. Alright? You ready?” Before the immediately recognisable track kicked in.
The crowd obviously went wild, with Kendrick immediately commanding the audience to sing along, running from side to side of stage, shouting every word like nothing else. Paak served as a pretty impressive hype man, which was reprised later in his set when Dr Dre also came out, to perform a few track, including Still D.R.E and Tupac‘s California Love.
