Listen To A Korean Compilation Album Inspired By Studio Ghibli

Seoul-based party crew Pute Deluxe have dropped a compilation album with various producers from all around the world. The concept is really cool; all of the tracks are inspired by the larger Studio Ghibli films, and feature audio samples from them. The project started as a tribute to Joe Hisaishi, who worked on many of the soundtracks of the Ghibli animation films. Starting with the iconic sounds of Spirited Away on Away With Me, the album spans many of the studio’s more famous works, including Ponyo, Princess Mononoke and My Neighbour Totoro. It’s really quite cool!

The music itself is pretty solid, with creative and impressive sampling. The standout tracks are the aforementioned Always With Me by BRLLNT and Ponyo by MISO. As a whole, the rest of the album is pretty solid, with great efforts from YANN CAVAILLE on Yamete and KATAMORI on Stroll Through The Sky. It’s really cool to smaller producers get the opportunity to work on projects like these, and for the work of great soundtrack artists like Hisaishi to be recognised. You can check out the whole album on Soundcloud below, and keep an eye out for anything else from Pute Deluxe and any of the producers that may happen to catch your ear.
