Lance Skiiiwalker Releases “Could It Be”, Video Co-Directed By Kendrick Lamar

If you, like me, are obsessed Top Dawg Entertainment – home to Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, ScHoolboy Q and more – you will no doubt be aware that they have recently added a new member to their family, a man named Lance Skiiiwalker.

TDE recently released his first song under the label, titled Speed. Now, a second track has been unveiled, along with its own video. The track is titled Could It Be and the video has been directed by PANAMÆRA and the little homies, which is Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free, president of Dave Free. You would be familiar with directorial work of the little homies through the videos for Lamar’s Alright, i, These Walls and For Free? (Interlude), all from 2015’s stunning album To Pimp A Butterfly.

The video stars Skiiiwalker, real name Lance Howard, trying to get the attention of a girl reading in the park. He dons a kind of creepy bunny suit (cue the Donnie Darko vibes), and when she refuses his attention he pulls out a knife and offers her an apple. She’s dead, cleverly stylised with two edited on X’s over her eyes. Then, it gets incredibly creepy. He cuddles her, forces her mouth into a smile and takes selfies among other things, before leaving her for dead – or does he?

The song is gorgeous, and I am really, really excited to see what’s to come in Skiiiwalker’s future.

Before signing to TDE, the Chicago-based rapper sometimes recorded under the name Johnny Rocket, both as a solo artist and one half of Chicago hip-hop duo The Rockateers, alongside D-Win, aka Darius Windfield.
