His first LP as a lead artist, Drake‘s Views went platinum in just under a week. But it seems like the album is far from done. The May 21 chart tally revealed that the rapper has landed no less than 20 songs in Billboard’s Hot 100. Of the 20, 18 are from Views, including single One Dance which is currently occupying the number 1 slot.
Drake has now overtaken former record holder Justin Bieber, whose Purpose tracked 17 songs on December 15 last year. To put things into perspective, Bieber’s December success displaced The Beatles who had held the honour for over 50 years. The Fab Four set the record in 1964, simultaneously charting 14 hit singles on April 11. This said, The Beatles still remain undefeated in occupying all top five chart positions at once, so there’s still some room for improvement.
Drake himself is no stranger to chart success. The rapper enjoyed 14 simultaneous hits on the March charts last year with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, and again in October with his joint project with Future, What A Time To Be Alive.
With 16 new tracks debuting in the Hot 100, Drake has taken his overall count to 123 entries in the charts, passing none other than Elvis Presley (108) for third-most entries. The Canadian is still trailing behind the cast of Glee (207) and Lil Wayne (130).
Late last year, Drake posted on Instagram, sharing his thoughts that landing his first number one as a lead would mark the biggest moment of his career, but it seems like with Views, he has achieved a whole lot more.
