Donnie Trumpet Shares Unreleased ‘Surf’ Tracks Ft. Chance The Rapper

It’s crazy to think that as of Saturday, Surf came out a year ago. The project by Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment boasted vocals from the likes of BJ The Chicago Kid, D.R.A.M., Erykah BaduChance The Rapper (you can’t forget Sunday Candy) and more, and was branded as one of the best albums of 2015 by the majors Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and of course Howl & Echoes.

Now, if you’re anything like us, you’ll be stoked to hear that Donnie Trumpet has come out and released a surprise collection of unused and unheard tracks which didn’t quite make it to the album. No need to fret though – now we can listen to them. At ten minutes long, The First Time features even more Chance The Rapper, as well as Ady Suleiman, J.P. Floyd, Dustin Green & Cam Obi, who join The Social Experiment to masterfully blend jazz, hip-hop, funk and general good vibes. It’s just super uplifting; I guarantee you can’t listen to this with a frown on your face.

Released on his Soundcloud, Donnie expressed his gratitude to the fans in the description saying, “This is a collection of unused Surf pieces, an ode to the era. Thank you to everyone who’s still listening and growing with the music.”

This all comes just a few weeks after Chance’s amazing third mixtape The Coloring Book, a stunning combination of hip-hop and gospel, all while featuring an absolutely star studded cast. To read more about The Coloring Book, check out our in-depth review here.
