South African hip-hop duo Die Antwoord have returned with two brand spanking new singles in preparation of their new mixtape Suck On This, due to drop this Thursday, their first new music in two years.
As evidenced by the title of the mixtape, Die Antwoord aren’t ones for subtitles, but they are taking it to the next level with this new material.
The lead single is called Bum Bum.
Straight away this should ring alarm bells. Maybe don’t add this track to your car playlist if you have kids.
A vocal sample of the lyric “even in my bum” opens the tune and loops throughout the rest of the song, backed up by average, minimalist trap beats and some of the filthiest lyrics over 2016 so far.
Case in point- “Legs spread, bed wet, dick mess everywhere.”
Good grief.
Dick mess sounds more like a 12 year old’s Myspace reflections on some new adventures he and his friends are having rather than a music lyric.
If you fancy a three-minute exploration into some confused sexual fantasies of mid-twenties musicians then this song is for you, but as far as we are concerned, we can’t hit “skip” soon enough.
Thankfully, Dazed and Confused, which came out late last week, salvages the situation for Ninja and Yolandi Vi$$er.
With a more driving reggae pulse, the song evokes both melody and musicality to make it interesting as oppose to lyrical filth.
Special mention goes to Ninja for reeling off some of the quickest lines of the group’s career.
Both tracks contain features from God himself… but who knows what he’ll make of this new material.
