Adult Swim’s Singles Series Kicks Off With DJ Paypal, “Dose”

Two days ago, cable network and compilation masters Adult Swim announced the lineup for the 2016 round of their Singles Series. Since its birth in 2010, the series has grown each year, and last year’s series included Flying Lotus, Run The Jewels, Skrillex and Shabbazz Palaces.

The 2016 run is set to feature new music from Vince Staples, Die Antwoord, Against Me! and Ryan Hemsworth among others, including repeat offenders Run the Jewels and FlyLo. The first weekly instalment of the year is now upon us, courtesy of Teklife member and footwork master DJ Paypal.

Dose is exactly what you’d expect from a collaboration between Adult Swim and Paypal, along with fellow Teklife members DJ Earl and DJ Taye. The enigmatic producer has gone down the old school route on the synths, bringing out some 8-bit and classic techno sounds that ride along floating pads. Of course, in true footwork style, all hell quickly breaks loose, with sharp hats and a lead that sounds like what you’d use to charm a snake. It’s this mastery of footwork that puts Paypal at the forefront of the genre; his debut album Sold Out was released last year to critical acclaim, and he’s toured all over the world, although his last visit to Australia was  back in 2014.

Dose is the perfect intro to anyone looking to branch into a higher velocity dance music. Best of all? You can download it for free.

Every Adult Swim single will be available as a free download, and with so many stellar artists making up this year’s roster, your iTunes library is going to be looking a lot more stacked. To be continued… next week.
