The Drones have just dropped the visual for Boredom, the third single off their recently released album, Feelin Kinda Free. The single follows on from Taman Shud and To Think That I Once Loved You, which both came out ahead of the album.
The accompanying clip was filmed across both Tokyo and Melbourne, and was directed by Chris Matthews along with The Drones themselves.
It’s very strange. The primary scene is of the band performing in a dark room, lit with bright, multicoloured lighting. Along with the surreal dress up costumes donned by each band member, it gives off a very strange kinda of carnival feel. The main scene is then intertwined with shots of a particularly twisted hens night, featuring an extremely unsettling bride-to-be, a tonne of selfies, and women eating finger food off the body of a (presumably) naked man – an, erm, unique take on the Japanese nyotaimori practise of eating sushi off a naked woman’s body.
You can tell these guys had a fucking great time filming this ridiculous video and it only makes me love them that much more.
The Drones have also announced two additional Melbourne dates for their upcoming national tour – full details below.
